We caught up with the brilliant and insightful MarShon Peoples a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
MarShon, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I ever worked on was writing my first book Epiphany The Designated Bullet.
Writing this book was meaningful to me because it helped me to see my progression from tragedy to triumph. Writing this book also allowed me to share my lessons, in hopes that my mistakes might be some youths wisdom.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Sure, I am MarShon Goode Peoples. I have a passion for working with young people. In 2012, I was shot in the head, while protecting teens at a community event. The full story is in my book Epiphany The Designated Bullet. I’ve used the Epiphany The Designated Bullet book as a lightning rod to help with various needs for families in the community through various nonprofit organizations like: Detroit Musix with Sam Donald, WJZD Radio Detroit with Don Allen, The Reggie McKenzie Foundation, Washtenaw My Brother’s Keeper with Jamal Bufford, The Treasure Within with Lakina Fulks and The 46th Chamber. These volunteer efforts and more, have granted me the prestigious Presidential Life Time Achievement Award by the Biden-Harris Administration.
I use my exposure to help market small family owned businesses to hopefully give them a better chance to thrive and thereby helping the local economy.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Yes, business life is full of pivots. A business plan is simply a guide to keep you on your path. But I’ve had to “pivot” with a many plans due to various reasons and areas like: the market changes, low demand, business competition or plain old research, rework and replace the plan that is not working.
Key thing is don’t stop! If it’s your passion, then it’s you, write your dream and I’m here to help. www.The46thChamber.com

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I’ve had to unlearn listening to people who’ve never been where I’m going.
I’ve had to learn to keep my plans to myself and simply work the plan. Seek guidance from people who are where you want to be and not from people where you currently are in your business.
