We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marshall Moody. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marshall below.
Hi Marshall, thanks for joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think the biggest thing t takes to be successful is having your definition of what success looks like. Most people consider people who have made it to the professional realm of sports to be successful but within that realm, athletes will tell you they don’t truly feel like they have achieved success until they win a championship. Most people would consider someone with an annual salary of $800,000 to be rich and successful. But if the person defines that success as being a millionaire, they would consider themselves $200,000 short of success. You have to have a clear definition of what success is to you. Once you define that, match your actions with your desired outcome and you will be on the right path.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I realized in college that I had the gift to bring people together with great tasting food. We used to host all kinds of pool parties and gatherings where people would look forward to the food I was preparing and literally fighting over leftovers.
My transition into corporate America showed me that you never really know when a company will decide they no longer need you so i started identifying ways of generate income based off my own skills. After 5 months of having a food page i was contacted about a catering opportunity. I had no experience in catering but I provided my services and they were so pleased they brought me back for two more events. That’s when the lightbulb clicked for me that i can actually make this a business.
Now i provide quality dining options for weddings, small gatherings, and even tailored meal prep options for athletes and personal trainers. I focus my service on more than just the food aspect. Of course the food is delicious, but I put a large emphasis on ensuring that the dining experience is as stress free and as simple as possible. When utilizing my service, my customers only problem is “what am I going to take a bite of first!?”

How did you build your audience on social media?
I started off just being silly and posting cooking videos on Snapchat. I had a good support system of friends that motivated me to start making content so I started a food page on instagram that has reached 1500+ followers. 2 years later i created a Tik Tok account that is about to hit 9,000 followers. I never thought I’d really have this size of a following but i just stayed consistent in sharing my creative ideas and my passion for good food with the world and that’s helped me get to this point. My advice to people starting out is to just stay consistent, everything is content and your audience is out there waiting for you, you just have to tap in and reach them!

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My best source for new clients has been the work that I’ve done for previous clients. Whether they were at an event i catered or they saw content from my socials i have been blessed enough to perform at a level that attracts new business. i make sure i bring my A game to every event because you never know where your next opportunity will come from.
