We were lucky to catch up with Marshae’ Conley recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Marshae’, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
September of 2019, I broke down in Sam’s Club parking lot after being laid off from my 5th job that year. I was devastated because I felt lost and confused with my career path. I didn’t have anything to motivate me or that I was passionate about pursuing. I allowed myself to go through those discouraging emotions then begin looking for other employment however it wasn’t until after I got hired in a clothing warehouse, which I eventually got laid off from due to Covid, was when the thought came to my mind – “What if I made clothes” – pretty much from that point on I haven’t hesitated when it came to my journey with fashion. Since a young girl, I’ve always cared so much about my appearance and have been a risk taker when it comes to being determined about getting what I want done though I didn’t think I’d go as far as being a seamstress. My advice to anyone who feels stagnant or indecisive about the future because of the present circumstances, no matter, take the risk. There will be obstacles and never ending problems surrounding your environment in life regardless. You just have to shut out the noise, pray and make up your mind on what you’d like to thrive in and do it. Take the risk.

Marshae’, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m self made. I did A LOT of footwork when it came to expanding my brand and getting eyes on it. I live through my brand, my brand is my life through and through. Those that can relate, get it. Simple. Being a shy and reserved person, I learned that one of my challenges were promoting, advertising and communicating effectively. Honestly you have to put yourself out there as much as possible, especially with how short the attention span of others can be, due to over saturation of similarities within the social algorithm. There is a such thing as knowing when not to over do it as well. Overly advertising can push away clients. Your mental health is also a key factor when pursuing your craft. Most businesses/brands start off as a one man team and building something from scratch without any inheritance, sponsors or loans can be a lot on one person so mental preparation matters more than anything. If it were easy, everybody would do it. There will be days that giving up sounds better but you have to push through those days.. eventually your team will fall into place to take the load off. Next to mental health, is discipline.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being of the highest vibration on earth, Authenticity.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My audience came from me being myself. Being completely and unapologetically me by living my brand and expressing what it means to me. Realistic and raw Transparency instead of typical facades, is what kept people tuned in to viewing my perception of life and how I went about living. Being a creative is a spiritual journey that’s hard to explain but also isn’t meant for everybody to..understand
