Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mars Luna. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mars, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
In another lifetime and universe ago, around the earth year of 2016, one of my best friends from high school passed away from cancer. When we graduated I promised her that I was going to put out a record someday, and it never happened while she was alive. Shortly after she passed, I put out my first EP “Genesis” later on that year.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Through my music and my art, my goal is to help people embrace their odyssey, and to embrace the strangeness of life. As I mentioned earlier, my musical odyssey started when I released my first EP Genesis on September 28, 2016. I released my second EP Prelude on April 17, 2017. In 2018, I released three singles: Selfish, Good Girl and Drift. On April 11, 2019, I released my first album Lost in Space as the first installment of the “Cosmic Chronicles”, which in short is the name of my discography. The Cosmic Chronicles is a series of projects (episodes) that encapsulate the spectrum of the human experience from an intergalactic lens.
On February 14, 2020, I released a single called Rocket Science. Due to the coronavirus pandemic (Panda invasion), my stars moved me in a different direction and it led me to release a surprise “interlude” EP Arcturus on December 26, 2020. On November 19, 2021, I released the second album of the Cosmic Chronicles, Dark Matter featuring the singles The Villain 2, Gone and the aforementioned Rocket Science.
Two years later, on December 8, 2023, I released the third episode of the Cosmic Chronicles, New Orbit with the singles: Green Light, Communication and This Time.
Currently, I’m releasing a bunch of demos from my hard drive as a part of my “yeet” era in preparation for my next (last) album “Final Voyage” that is set to release in the summer of 2025.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
This may sound like an ambivalent statement, but while I’m grateful to have a squad of creative friends I can rely on and trust in, I wish I was intentional in learning how to produce my own music, taking my own photos and creating my own content. The “rona” and my “Arcturus” record I released in 2020 made me realize this. I would’ve gained an infinite amount of knowledge, it would allow me to be self-sufficient as a creative person and it would save me a lot of time and money (to a lesser degree). Much love to the homies though, they make me better for sure.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
The verbiage of this question is fascinating because I think about this all the time. The evolution of technology plays a part in this. I believe since there’s an over saturation and of art in the world today, it makes non-creative folks think that being a creative is “easy” and accessible to everyone. However lots of folks don’t realize how expensive being a creative person is. Life is expensive, and being creative is an extension of humanity. I’ve had many enlightening conversations with humans about my creative process and there are some who lament why creatives don’t just make their art for the love of it. While I do appreciate that sentiment and all love to those who do that, I am a creative person because that’s who I am, and pursuing art and music full time is an investment. Therefore, I believe that if you are a creative person, you are your own business. If you are serious about your craft and your brand, you have to treat yourself like you’re the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. That requires an extra-ordinary amount of self-confidence, self-belief and I am currently working towards that.
