We recently connected with Mars Avila and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Mars thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
As a first generation Mexican-American, it’s become a goal of mine to reach all communities alike. My businesses mission has always, from day one, been that I want my services to be accessible to everyone. No one wants to look at a portfolio and never see themselves in my lense. I want my services to be affordable, and accessible to everyone in the Mid-Michigan area I serve.
As I’ve grown into a young adult, I’ve realized three’s nothing more important than my support system. I struggled a lot in my teen years with my mental health, and it’s now my goal in life to let people know that life isn’t as rough as it feels right now. Happiness beats in my heart, and I love sharing it with my clients in the form of self love.
At the end of the day, all you have is yourself and the love surrounding your heart. Everyone should be able to express themselves.
Mars, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’d like to believe my love for photography started middle school. I always was fascinated with the idea of capturing people special moments even if it was just a picture of the Sky or them holding hands with their best friend. When I first started off, I only wanted to do wedding in newborn photography. However, I realized I didn’t want to put a label on what I was able to capture, and wanted to make everyone feel comfortable in themselves.
My brand is all about feeling comfortable and happy in your skin, and being able to be unapologetically yourself no matter what. I’m proud to say that I’ve been able to achieve this with all my clients that I’ve serviced.
As for my promise to my clients, my promise to them is that I’m taking their photos with love. That sounds cheesy, and like nothing, but to me love is everything. Without love, in any form, we have nothing in the world. The ability to love my craft and take photos with a genuine passion is something I’m extremely grateful for, and want to show it through my work.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Networking is one of the most important things I can recommend for a new business owner. It’s important to know the right people, and to be able to put yourself out there authentically. Never pretend to be someome you aren’t, because someday, it will catch up to you and your name. Your connections with people are everything, don’t burn bridges you may have to walk across.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe what helped make my brand reputable is the fact that I always stand by my work. I try my hardest to work with my clients budget and dream to come up with a plan we can both achieve. That being said, never be a doormat for people to walk on. There’s a difference between being flexible, and being taken advantage of. Know that there’s a sweet-spot between these things in the business world.
I will always stand behind my work and strive to make my clients happy with the memories they receive. This is something everyone who has booked with me can vouch for, I try to be everyones supporter. Being able to fix any mistakes you make and be honest is something people love, and it’s having the raw integrity of running your business on nothing but transparency that will get people to come to you.
