We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Marre Gomez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Marre, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Since I was a small kid I lived in my own world and I always knew I wanted to be an artist. I was different from everyone but I knew I had a power in me to change the world and help people.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was always different, dancing to the beat of my own drum. Searching for my personal path to success as a gifted young woman. Obsessed with music for as long as I can remember, I came to understand school was not the answer so I dropped out of college and began to pursue my dream.
Since that day, I have been unstoppable. Like a freight train crashing down the barriers of Latin pop music . Right now I am working on my new album, something that will redefine the genre. Exploring myself and the world surrounding her with astonishing depth and uniqueness. The full range of emotions and passions in between, telling my story, my truth, and everything that I have learned in the years. Delivering an incomparable, personal, yet universal, musical adventure.
My first album was a self-titled album, which spawned three chart singles – Qué Pasó, Más y Más and Cada Vez. On the success of that album I toured incessantly, performing and promoting my work. During that time I developed a devoted fan base and a strong Internet presence through my personal involvement with all aspects of her career.
In addition to my musical career, I was chosen to be a spokesperson and campaign leader for different charities that enhance her philanthropic work. I was the Image of the road prevention campaign of MTV and the IDB (Inter-American Development Bank), an artist of the RedPaz in Colombia. Campaign leader against bullying of ‘Escudos del Alma’, spokesperson for Best Buddies Colombia that helps create opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities. I performed charity concerts at events such as Heroes of the Hemisphere (Orlando, United States), of the Panamerican Development Foundation, Concert of the OAS (Organization of American States) celebrating the 200 years of the Independence of Colombia (Washington, United States ). In 2013 I was awarded in Canada by MTV and the IDB with the “Chiuku” award for being an ‘Agent of Change’. I took the time I needed for myself, and left the music business to become a big Latin Bloggers, and influencers. I created my recognized blog Marre.com.co that has become a benchmark for fashion, lifestyle, travel and music . I have participated in several events such as the ¨Fashion Week¨ in Bogotá, Cali, Medellín, Cartagena and Barranquilla. I have been invited to Miami´s ¨Swim Week¨ , ¨New York Fashion Week¨ and ¨Paris Fashion Week¨. Along the way i have found time to give back to her community at home and around the world.
This is only the beginning. I know no limits. Fueled by passion, driven by philanthropy and led by the need to share my talent and messages she is set to explode in the world of music and entertainment.
Do yourself a favor. take one look at my presence, read my blog and you will see the future of the industry .
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
It allows me to be myself to show the world what I really am, and it lets me tell my stories, that is the reason I started to write since I was a little girl, it has been evolving and now I feel I have lots of stories to tell my audience. To connect with them and show them that although life isn’t perfect you can always reinvent yourself and make things to make the world a better place to live.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My second album never went out because of labels, I was an EMI artist and Universal bought them, it was a mess, i was blocked of the media for more than 3 years, but I reinvent myself, I created the blog, and I started to learn other side of the business I would never thought I would. Right now I am ready to start showing people that when you are are passionate and love what you do, there is nothing that could break you and you could learn from your mistakes.
