We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Marra Avery-Drayton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Marra, appreciate you joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
What significance does Zenith Creative Co. hold for me? In the process of selecting a name for my business, I fought with the choice between a generic identity and my own name. Following months of strategic planning, I discovered the ideal resolution. I recognized the importance of conveying that my brand wasn’t centered around me, but rather around the individuals I aspired to help.
The term “Zenith,” is defined as”the time at which something is most powerful or successful.”. My business aims to help others achieve a new level of success they’ve never experienced before. It is to help them grow into the new chapter of their business with confidence and support.
In every interaction with my clients, my objective is to paint a vivid picture of the potential they possess in order to reach their ultimate heights of success.
Marra, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a Strategic Brand Designer for women-owned small businesses and entrepreneurs. My purpose is to help others grow credibility, attract a fresh audience to their brand, and boost sales.
I provide support to my clients through modern and bold logo, brand, and web design. What makes my process unique is that I focus heavily on using strategic approaches to every design detail that is chosen for the client’s brand. This means that every color, illustration, font, and more, is chosen to directly attract the ideal audience to the brand and increase traffic and sales to the business.
My focus lies not on fleeting trends, but rather in applying the most effective means to elevate brand credibility and to design a visual identity that stands out against industry leaders. My goal is not only to create a brand but to create a personality that audiences can and want to connect and grow with.
I’m most proud of the massive boost of pride that my clients feel when they see their new brand and have developed a strategy that they can feel confident with. Developing your brand should be fun and eye-opening to the endless possibilities of what your brand can become.
I’ve created lifelong friendships and connections with each client of mine. My process is thorough and has allowed others to see their brand for what it is beyond just the products and services. They are able to see the purpose and value that their brand brings and build a personal connection to watching it blossom.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
The most vital resource that I wish people knew the power of is COMMUNITY. I believe that when many of us are building a new brand or trying to improve a current business, we focus heavily on sales and starting conversations with those who want to buy. Yet, the reality is that some of the most meaningful dialogues are nurtured with those seeking support.
In my view, community engagement is a cornerstone of success. Over 75% of my clients come from referrals, often stemming from connections I haven’t directly worked with, but with whom I’ve shared conversations and built relationships. These minor exchanges and shared moments gradually create a strong foundation of trust.
Not all of your energy should be put towards making sales. It’s important to put energy into building a community and sharing support with anyone you can. You would be surprised at what comes from it.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is to guide individuals toward crafting a future where they call the shots, molding a life that perfectly aligns with their aspirations. Before I opened my business, I had a long resume of jobs where I never felt fully respected or valued for my skills and personality. I struggled with mental health for most of my life and 9-5 office jobs did not work for me. I knew the power to make my own hours and create a unique process would benefit me not only mentally but professionally. At the end of every day I felt tired and uninspired.
Building my own business has allowed me to work flexible hours that worked for my energy level and create a space where I felt peace and support. I believe so many people have the power to create strong businesses but are held back due to micromanaging and a lack of trust from peers. It’s about cultivating an environment where self-assurance flourishes and the shackles of conformity are cast aside. My goal is to help others find strength in their independence and build a life that works for their needs.
