Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marquita Evans. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Marquita, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
As an entrepreneur, you story and your why is what sets you apart from others in the industry. Unless you are creating a new product that the world has yet to experience, there will be someone or many others who are doing the exact same thing. Your story is what drives your road to gaining customers. I gave up on new years resolutions in 2018. I had been running my Nanny Service since 2008 and was in love with my career as a Surgical tech. While working 12 hour shifts, I realised eating hospital cafeteria food daily would soon lead to me as a patient. I began juicing as a way to obtain my daily fruits and vegetables. A former co worker posted the opportunity to open a coffee shop and I pitched the idea of a Juice Bar! My word for 2020 was intentions which became the name of the shop! Being inspired to serve my community has been the driving force!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Intentions Juice & Smoothie Bar was created in 2020 with the goal to challenge one’s
mind on being intentional about what they feed their body. What began as a home
endeavor to create a healthier lifestyle evolved into creating a space for the community
to be intentional. Navigating through opening during a pandemic led Marquita to seek
solutions vs see problems. Intentions is currently in the process of opening their second
location in Seattle with a third scheduled to open in Downtown Tacoma this fall.
In 2023, Marquita began facilitating for the PCBA (Pierce County Business Accelerator
Program) where she provided in person instruction for entrepreneurs located in Pierce
County. This endeavor also offered Business coaching to participants in which Marquita
has to date worked closely with 26 small businesses.
Building multiple businesses from the ground up has given Marquita a range of
expertise including but not limited to business licensing, business coaching, LLC
formation, personal credit education, building meaningful business relationships, and
conflict resolution.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I opened my second business 12 years after my first. A-List Nanny Services has been successful through a referral basis. When opening Intentions Juice and Smoothie Bar, unknowingly I began running it in the same manner not realising the importance of marketing. 3 years and 3 stores later I realise that as a business owner it is important to know and understand your industry along with how to market strategically. You can be successful in one realm however, other realms may have different requirements.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Covid was a huge driving force. We had plans to open prior to covid yet the shutdown caused delays. I was working in healthcare and found out I was pregnant all in the same time frame I was placed on bed rest. Upon opening my store and delivering my child, I decided I couldn’t see myself missing milestones. That was the moment I decided to become a fulltime mompreneuer. My daughter had her own space in the store and I was able to be present for both of my babies!
Today we have a full staff and with properly set boundaries I have the ability to balance my worlds entirely
