Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marquisia Kemp . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Marquisia , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Growing up I lived in a small city in Florida called Winter Garden. No, not the side of Winter Garden that is always being advertised but on the side of town in which it was a lower income area. I always knew as a little girl that I would be something “Big” but I just didn’t know what. At the age of 16, I became pregnant with my daughter and at this point I knew something had to change. I knew that I couldn’t continue to stay in the same environment if I wanted change. I knew that I now had someone that was looking up to me and I had to make some changes.
At the age of 19 I took a life changing risk for the better. After speaking with a friend that was already in college I decided to move from Winter Garden, Fl to Tallahassee, Fl to begin my college journey as well. I figured if I moved I wouldn’t be to distracted and that it would lead to a BIGGER PICTURE. I also had thoughts in my head of how am I going to be able to maintain, nobody close to me has done this, and if it would be the right idea. After some time of being in my head I decided to just do it. I had never lived on my own or done anything on my own besides work a job but I just knew that I could do it.
In August of 2013, I had finally done it. After 2 months of being in this new city I had found me a job, enrolled in college, and moved into student living (college apartments), and things were getting better. With consistency, hard work, and dedication things were finally working together for our good.
In 2017, I graduated from Tallahassee Community College with my Associates in Arts. This accomplishment alone made me realize that I can conquer anything I put my mind to. I was not the first generation in my immediate family to graduate from college.
On January 1, 2022, I decided to take things a bit further and bet on myself by launching my all natural handmade skincare selfcare business. Yes I decided to take an even bigger risk on another journey that I had never been on nor seen my immediate family do. It was one of the best moves I could have made.
In May 2022, I graduated from Aveda as a Licensed Full Specialist Esthetician which allowed me to expand my business. Now I provide both skincare/beauty products and services catering to self care needs.
Needless to say, I am very proud of the risks that I have taken and that they have worked in my favor. So I say this to you, if you are reading this and thinking about taking a risk to help better your life JUST DO IT. Do it happy, do it sad, do and do it scared. No matter what JUST DO IT!
Marquisia , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a licensed Full Specialist Esthetician and owner of Just Peachy P Beauty. I gained my title by attending Aveda in which I graduated in May 2022. Just Peachy P Beauty was created to teach women how to Do it With Purpose in 2022. We are selfcare skin care brand catering to all skin types and beauty lovers. Our purpose is to create a welcoming beauty shopping experience and to inspire everyone to “Live Life Just Peachy”. We make handmade, vegan & cruelty-free self care products that help promote healthy glowing skin. We also cater to your selfcare needs by providing services.
All products are made with natural ingredients that are beneficial. These products are not only to enhance your beauty but provide healthier skincare options. We currently sell body scrubs, lip scrubs, lip candy (gloss), cleanser, moisturizer, cocoa balm, mink eyelash extensions, and etc.
We also provide selfcare services such as Facials, Manicures, Pedicures, Lash Services, Brow Services, Extractions, Full Body Waxing, Selfcare Packages, Mommy & Me and much more. We take pride in our services and make sure that each client understands their skin issue(s), how we treated them, and how to continue to treat themselves outside of seeing me so that they will continue see results and reap the benefits.
I am most proud of having the ability to make my clients/customers feel and look beautiful. I love that I can connect with every client/customer that I come in contact with and help uplift them. I love that I can teach my clients/customers new things that they may not have known prior to meeting me. But what I love the most is the love, support, and acknowledgement that I receive from my clients and customers.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think the things that helped build my reputation was my authenticity, honesty, knowledge, and having great skin. I am the type of person to just be myself, tell you the truth, provide you with knowledge, and my skin allows me to be a walking billboard and an example of what happens when you take care of your skin.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients has been in person networking events such as business expos, brunch, pop up shops, etc. These in person events have allowed me to connect on a different level. I mean social media is great but everytime I meet someone in person they always say “it’s so good to match your face and personality in person”. I honestly feel like in person allows my clients to feel my vibe and energy.
