We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marquez Price. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marquez below.
Hi Marquez , thanks for joining us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
No way! Muhammad Ali ued to say, “My train is on schedule.” That’s also the title of my first book (“My Train is On Schedule.”) It debuted as a #1 seller and bedtseller in 7 categories on Amazon. I trust divine timing so I believe I started when I was supposed to start.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve been a writer my entire life, and the first time I scribbled letters across paper from a pencil in elementary, I knew. My mom was the first to tell me I was gifted at writing and she never let up on reminding me. God gave me fortune through her love. Teachers joined in on echoing my mother’s sentiment as well as friends. I was too busy pursuing hoop dreams growing up to commit myself to the margins of a notebook, but I still filled up notebooks with writings until I had scrolls of material. It wasn’t until the pandemic in 2020 that I had the epiphany that I could no longer sleep on my gift. Serendipity found me when a local photographer asked me to write an essay for a project she was doing that pertained to race relations in America. The essay went viral on Facebook which was the only push I needed to plunge into my sequestered dreams. I self-published two books, “My Train is On Schedule” and “From the Observer to the Observed” in 2021- three months apart from each other. They both became instantaneous bestsellers. In February of 2023, I released my third book, “The Algorithm of a Culture.” I released it independent of any major book publishing platform like Amazon and Barnes & Noble. I only made 100 copies and sold them for $100 each copy. They sold out within 30 days. I then re-released the book in August of 2023 on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. To maintain the integrity of the $100 campaign for the 100 purchasers, I priced the book at $150 on major book distribution platforms. I then created my own publishing company, “Teach One Publishing” that offers a myriad of services to artists and creatives of all genres nationwide. Some of the services include self-publishing for books, website writing, blogs, podcast tutorial and host guidance, articles, book writing for memoirs, ghostwriting, etc. I also Co-executive produce a podcast/show entitled “The People That I Know” available on YouTube. I host the show and interview luminaries from Tucson, Arizona that are making an impact on a national level or are on the verge of doing so. I refer to my “clients” as partners and my primary objective is to help them by providing an opportunity to gain equity through collaborative efforts that are mutually beneficial in building financial autonomy as creatives. I am most proud of that, and giving back my communities in Tucson, Arizona- especially the kids.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to life a life doing what I love while building an empire and legacy with my loved ones. That gives me inexhaustible fuel for my creative journey.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
My view on NFTs is that I’m eager to become comfortably skilled at operating in that space. I don’t want to be left befind in anybrealm of opportunity to expand my repertoire. I welcome collaboration with those who are proficient with NFTs.
