We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Marlyn Guerrero a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Marlyn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Naming a business can be very difficult. I did struggle a little bit when naming my business. I knew I wanted something that was fitting to me and my personality, something unique. I also knew I didn’t want my business name to be geared to a specific item. I think it took me longer to come up with a business name than it did to decide I wanted to start my small business.
I played around with adding my name to creations (ex. Marlyn’s Creations) or something of that nature but quickly realized a lot of businesses are named that way. I wanted my business to stand out. I finally came up with Marla’s Craft Room.
Marla is my family nickname and I felt this would be a great way to represent myself within my business, giving it the personality I wanted. Craft Room allows me create multiple items, being able to expand my talent and business.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Marlyn, I am a creator of about almost anything. I started Marla’s Craft Room in October 2022. What was meant to be just a hobby quickly took a life form of its own. I started out by decorating for family parties and creating gifts. My family began to refer me to multiple people and that’s when I decided to sign up for a local craft show. Within the last two years I have been part of multiple craft shows/markets and grown as a creator.
I focus on providing custom quality product for my customers. Marla’s Craft Room consists of so many different products. The best part is that every single item can be customized. I am constantly looking for new ways to help expand my small business. I am constantly learning new techniques to continue to provide new and exciting things.
I am very excited to see what the future holds for Marla’s Craft Room.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele is being active on social media. I’ve learned the more I post on social media and advertise my products the more likely I am to reach new clientele. I try to keep up with little giveaways to help gain followers and keep my existing customers excited for new product.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I truly believe that participating in local markets and craft shows has helped me build my reputation. It gives me the opportunity to discuss my product with shoppers and build a relationship with them. Having a positive relationship with shoppers and event organizers helps me continue to spread my small business name in hopes to reaching shoppers and events outside of Colorado.
