Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marlon Ragin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Marlon , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
For me, this journey is about much more than providing entertainment services—it’s about using creativity to uplift communities, celebrate culture, and build lasting relationships.
As a former President of the non-profit for Northwestern High School in Prince George’s County, MD, I’ve always believed in the power of giving back. That same spirit is deeply embedded in everything we do at NYCHI Production. We don’t just serve our community—we’re a part of it. We don’t just work in the community—we invest in it.
From partnering with local creatives to hiring independent artists and promoting small business vendors, NYCHI serves as a platform for exposure and growth. When you book NYCHI, you’re helping to circulate revenue back into the local economy, spotlight emerging talent, and create real opportunities for others.
One of our proudest initiatives is the Silver Tech Digital Literacy Initiative, a program that provides free or low-cost computer training for adults aged 50 and older. This program helps bridge the digital divide, empowering older generations with the skills they need to thrive in a technology-driven world.
Marlon , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I believe relationships are the core of long-term success, so I make it a priority to stay connected with clients beyond the event. After we’ve worked together, I always follow up with a personalized thank-you note — it’s a simple gesture that leaves a lasting impression.
Throughout the year, I share updates about what’s new with the company, upcoming projects, and ways we can collaborate again. I also like to surprise clients with swag bags or thoughtful gifts as a way to show appreciation — whether it’s branded merch or something tailored to their interests.
Holiday greetings are a must for me — they’re personal, they show I’m thinking of them, and they keep the relationship warm. I also offer exclusive discounts to returning clients or referrals as a token of gratitude. For me, it’s not just about the one-time event — it’s about building real connections that last, and turning clients into community.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building my audience on social media has been a journey rooted in authenticity, consistency, and community engagement. I started by using what I had — real-life moments from gigs. I posted behind-the-scenes videos showing my setup and breakdown process. That gave people a raw, transparent look into the work it takes to deliver high-quality experiences. It also showed professionalism, which built trust.
I also used email surveys to engage past clients and potential audiences, asking what songs they love — not just to shape my playlists, but to build genuine relationships. That data helped me create content people actually cared about. I regularly post educational DJ tips and insights into the business side of events, which positioned me as both an artist and an expert.
Performance photos, quick highlight reels, and strategic tagging helped with visibility, especially when working with organizations or high-profile clients. I also do direct marketing — targeting companies, schools, and community orgs that align with my brand — and tailor content for those audiences.
Advice? Start with what makes you unique. Be consistent. Don’t just chase likes — aim to connect. Show your process, involve your followers, and treat your audience like partners in your journey. Social media isn’t just a platform — it’s a stage. And how you show up matters.
