We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Marley King a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Marley , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
MBBX Cosmetics didn’t start as a fully formed business plan. It started as an idea and a feeling that I couldn’t shake.
I loved beauty, but more than that, I loved how beauty made women feel. I knew I wanted to create something of my own, but at first I had no idea what all went into building a brand. I just knew I wanted to start.
The first thing I did was research. I spent countless hours looking into the beauty industry, product development, packaging, suppliers, websites, business registration, and what it would actually take to bring a product to life. Every answer led to five more questions.
Then I started making decisions.
I had to figure out what I wanted the brand to stand for, who it was for, and what product I wanted to launch with. Instead of trying to create an entire makeup line, I decided to focus on lip gloss and build from there. That decision helped me move from dreaming to planning.
After that came the less glamorous part of entrepreneurship.
I worked on sourcing products, testing samples, choosing packaging, building a website, creating social media accounts, and learning how to market a brand. I was balancing all of this while working a full-time job, so progress wasn’t overnight. Some weeks I felt like I was moving quickly, and other weeks I felt like I was just learning.
One of the biggest lessons was realizing that launching a business isn’t one big moment. It’s hundreds of small decisions made consistently over time.
There were moments when I changed directions, updated branding, refined the vision, and even reimagined what I wanted the company to become. What started as a simple beauty idea eventually evolved into MBBX Cosmetics a lifestyle-driven beauty brand rooted in confidence, softness, and everyday luxury.
As the brand grew, I focused on creating experiences around it. That led to partnerships, gifting opportunities, pop-ups, community events, and eventually hosting our first brand event in New York. Seeing women interact with the brand in real life was one of those moments where the vision finally felt tangible.
Looking back, there wasn’t a single day where I woke up and suddenly had a business. It was research, trial and error, learning, investing, making mistakes, adjusting, and continuing anyway.
The biggest thing that moved me beyond the idea phase was deciding that I was willing to learn what I didn’t know. Once I stopped waiting until I had all the answers and started taking small actions, the business began to take shape.
Today, I’m still building. The vision has evolved, but that’s part of entrepreneurship. Sometimes the vision changes because you’ve grown enough to carry something bigger. And that’s exactly what happened with MBBX.

Marley , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Marley King, and I am the founder of MBBX Cosmetics, a beauty brand centered around confidence, self expression, and everyday luxury.
Like many entrepreneurs, I started with a passion and a vision to create something that felt authentic. Beauty has always been more than products to me. It has always been about how people feel. I wanted to build a brand that encouraged confidence, celebrated individuality, and created meaningful experiences for women.
What makes MBBX unique is that I am the consumer.
I didn’t create a brand based on what I thought people wanted. I created a brand for women like me. Women who want to feel put together without doing the most. Women who appreciate quality products, meaningful experiences, and small moments that make them feel confident. Every product, event, campaign, and brand decision is filtered through the question, “Would I genuinely love this as a customer?”
MBBX began as a lip gloss brand, but my vision has always been much bigger than beauty products. I wanted to create a brand that women could see themselves in. A brand that celebrates who they are while they are becoming who they want to be.
Today, MBBX offers beauty products and experiences designed to make women feel confident, beautiful, and seen. Whether through our gloss collections, community centered events, partnerships, or brand activations, our goal is to create moments that remind women of their value.
One thing that sets us apart is our focus on community. We do not just sell products. We create experiences. From hosting affirmation activities and beauty focused events to partnering with creators and organizations that align with our mission, we are intentional about building genuine connections with the women we serve.
What I am most proud of is the growth of the brand and the willingness to continue evolving. MBBX has grown from an idea into a brand that has connected with women across the country through events, collaborations, and shared experiences. Every milestone represents a leap of faith, a lesson learned, and a commitment to keep building.
If there is one thing I want people to know about me and MBBX, it is that authenticity will always be at the center of what we do. We are building more than a beauty brand. We are building a community for women who are becoming. Women who are growing, evolving, chasing their goals, and learning to see themselves through a lens of confidence and possibility.
As the brand continues to grow, our mission remains the same: to create products, experiences, and conversations that help women feel like the best version of themselves, exactly where they are in their journey.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One of the biggest lessons I have learned as an entrepreneur is that resilience is often found in the ability to keep going when progress feels slow.
As I built MBBX, there were moments when I had to rethink my vision, refine the brand, and adapt to challenges that I did not anticipate. Like many business owners, I experienced periods of self doubt and moments when the results did not immediately reflect the effort being invested.
What kept me going was my belief in the mission. Instead of giving up, I continued learning, evolving, and showing up for the brand. Looking back, I am proud that I never stopped building. Every challenge helped shape MBBX into what it is today and reminded me that growth often requires patience, flexibility, and persistence.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
One of the biggest pivots in my journey was realizing that MBBX needed to become more than a lip gloss brand.
When I first launched, my focus was primarily on the product. As the brand grew, I started paying closer attention to what customers were actually connecting with. I realized they were not just buying gloss. They were connecting with the feeling, the community, and the experiences surrounding the brand.
That realization led me to pivot from simply selling products to building a lifestyle and community driven brand. We began focusing more on events, partnerships, brand activations, and creating meaningful experiences for women.
At the time, it felt risky because it meant expanding beyond my original vision. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I made. It taught me that sometimes growth requires letting go of what you thought the business would be so it can become what it is meant to be.
