We recently connected with Mark Rios and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Mark thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I have 2 very meaningful projects that I’ve created and produced. One is an indie mob series called, “A Family Thing.” I play the mob boss. And the second one is a one-act musical play about the spiritual side of the “King.” It’s called, “The Gospel Soul of Elvis.”

Mark , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve been an actor for 20 years professionally. As an actor, I always was under the direction of producers and directors for the first 16 years of my career. It was not until the summer of 2019, that I got the creative idea of writing an indie mob show. I always loved that genre since I was a kid. After writing and producing “A Family Thing” as a short film, it has since turned into an indie series. In the show, I play the mob boss, who’s loosely based on a family member on my mom’s side. We are in talks right now, to try and get the first season picked up. It means so much to start seeing your hard work pay off. I also have created/produced a stage show, “The Gospel Soul of Elvis.” It’s a behind the scenes look at the spiritual side of the “King.” We had the world premiere last year in Dallas. We’ve had a couple mini-tours last year throughout Texas. And it has morphed into something very special since then. My original stage show now has several different versions depending on what venue we perform it in.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is that you get to entertain people from all walks of life through your personal creativity.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think one of the biggest things that they may not understand is that in this biz, you can’t allow rejection to force you to stop doing what makes you happy.
