Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mark Chavez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Mark thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
1932 is my first project and will probably always be the most meaningful. The idea started in 2020 when my grandpa passed. He was born in the year 1932. He was always the biggest male role model I had growing up. And I’ve always had a love for clothes & just fashion in general I guess so I decided to dedicate something I love and am passionate about to him. So in a way he lives forever through everything I do with 1932.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I grew up in Southeast Houston & have always had an interest in clothes. Growing up I remember my older brother, Freddy, wearing brands like The Hundreds, 10deep etc. And then eventually those pieces would become hand me downs & would grow my interest in them & from then it just kept on expanding. I’ve always had ideas but honestly I was too young & broke at the time to put anything to life. The idea for 1932 started in 2020 but it wasn’t till December 2023 that I put out my first shirt. Ever since then I’ve just been trying to keep the ball rolling. Most of all I just want something I love to be shared with those around me & the world. When you really are passionate about something it’ll always show and set you apart.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Honestly just supporting locals in your area. Whether it be your local barbershop or the small brand that’s pushing out merch. If everyone supports one another in the community I believe it’ll always thrive.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I think the most rewarding aspect would probably be seeing the love you put into something being reciprocated by people around you. It’s a great feeling knowing something you worked on is not just great to you but to others as well.
