We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mark Alonso. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mark below.
Mark, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career
Truly Teach skills, whether they be technical or conceptual. Even though theory is necessary, it is only a foundation so the classroom is not usually the true place to learn most practical thinks, but the job itself is. Bring back Apprenticeships and do away with unnecessary internships. Have people recently active in the career field in question be the instructor. Repetition is key in learning. And applying it immediately is tantamount to providing application.
Eliminate standardized testing as it proves nothing of importance. Sharp acuity, adaptability and logical reasoning analytical skills are important to success in any field, not mere facts about subjects that one can jot down on a multiple choice lesson and be forgotten the next day. After all, information can alway be reference with your own personal library when needed on the job.
Keep it simple and effective, not long and inefficient. As in exercising, a good workout does not require hours at the gym, but maybe an hour at most of structured training.
Mark, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Learned the trade beginning in 2006. Our family company installs electronics in home to do a gamut of things, form control your video, audio with cameras, to you rights, motorized shades, gates, door locks and more, We wire, install them, and program them for this experience all from a remote control or mobile app. Usually, we begin with installing and configuring a rock solid network for wired and wifi. We can customize further feature such as VLANS, VPN’s and firewall controls too.
We use products such as Lutron, Control4, Sonance, Luma, Doorbird, Araknis networks, Somfy, Sonos, and more.
We provide complete systems consultation, design and tech support for every project we do.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Sincere honesty in our approach. We don’t pain a fake picture to our clientele, We only sell them what they need and don’t charge for things that are not billable.
We keep open communication in the process and attempt to to be pleasant company to have in your home or office.
This has kept our clientele happy prompted them to give us referrals.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had to automate the operations. We now use software to schedule things. Our clients were used to just either calling me, text messaging or emailing to either request a new service or a follow up.
The volume of appointments could not be solely done this way any more. In order to keep our efficiency, we had to automate these processes, especially when people were reaching our after hours. We have automatic reply’s to messages that come in late so that people know to respect our business hours just like a standard office or brick or store has.,
This allows us not to miss appointments, whether it be for our team for an installation or just a meeting. Our design and proposal tools also provide a front facing solution for clients to receive an estimate on a job with itemized products and details.
