Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marjorie Poff. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Marjorie , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
The idea for Enneaplanner was quite the adventure. First of all, I may have a bit of a planner addiction. Over the years I would spend time going up and down the aisles at office supply stores and Target searching for the perfect planner. After picking one (or several) planners to take home, they would end up on a shelf or in the trash after a few weeks. These planners ended up being too simple or too complex and just didn’t hold my attention. It was so frustrating! I discovered that I wasn’t the only one with this frustration. In recent years, websites have come out where you can create “custom” planners that I hoped would solve this problem, but again the customization wasn’t enough. Elements were still missing, or elements were added that weren’t necessary. The search continued.
Then in a random conversation with a friend, the idea was brought up that I should take my love for The Enneagram, a personality system that focuses on a person’s motivations, and pair it with planners to create a line of planners that works with how the brains of these various personality types operate.
After taking a deeper dive into researching the Enneagram and planner styles, Enneaplanner was created to solve the problem of not finding a planner that fits. We were not the first or only Enneagram-based planner system, but Enneaplanner’s line of planners is serious about creating a planner that is specific for each Enneagram type…even down to the font used. I love that no two of our planners look alike. There was so much work that went into the details for each Enneaplanner, but I am so proud of what has been accomplished to help people become their most productive self.
Marjorie , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Marjorie Poff. I am in the Nashville, TN area and am the founder/owner of Enneaplanner. Enneaplanner is a series of annual physical planners based on the Enneagram. The idea came out of a conversation dealing with the frustration of never being able to find a planner that was a good fit for how our brains specifically worked. After much research and study, I created this series of planners that does just that. Varying daily/weekly, varying layouts, varying elements, and even varying fonts…all based on that particular Enneagram type. I am so proud of all the work that went into genuinely making each planner unique. I am passionate about seeing people experience freedom in their productivity and efficiency by learning how their brain operates and leaning into that. Enneaplanner’s central message is that productivity is personal. We will provide you with the best tool to make that happen for you.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I am in the middle of a lesson on resilience. Supply chain issues are still a challenge and are affecting the potential launch of the full line of Enneaplanner. I am quite a perfectionist and have had a very specific vision for these planners. There are many parts that have to come together for these planners, and I have heard the words “out of stock” with an “undetermined fulfillment date.” As decisions have had to be made about what is more important…my vision or getting a still great product out to the public, I’ve had to set aside my pride and move forward knowing there are things that are going to be out of my control and I need to do the best with what I can control.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Knowing my niche within my niche. There are many Enneagram accounts. There are many Planner accounts. But there are few Enneagram Planners, so I need to keep my focus on those areas that point to people that would be interested in Enneagram Planners. I try to spend most of my time focusing on how the Enneagram can help people with areas like goal setting and productivity. I have learned it’s best to stay in my lane.
