We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mariya Madej a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Mariya, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
From a very young age, I had an undeniable passion for the beauty industry. Growing up, I would often find myself fascinated by the transformative power of beauty—how it could elevate not only appearances but also confidence and self-esteem. This passion stayed with me as I grew older, shaping my aspirations and fueling my dreams.
Traveling became another cornerstone of my life. Exploring different countries and immersing myself in diverse cultures taught me so much about people, their unique beauty practices, and the skillsets they valued. These experiences broadened my perspective and deepened my understanding of what beauty truly means. It’s more than skin-deep; it’s about feeling comfortable and confident in your own skin.
When the idea for Mariya’s Silky Skin laser hair removal and Hydrafacial services first came to mind, I was filled with mixed emotions. On one hand, I was thrilled at the prospect of starting something new and turning my passion into a reality. On the other hand, I was scared. This was uncharted territory for me—a challenge bigger than anything I had ever taken on. But I knew deep down that this was a leap I had to take, not just for myself but for others who might benefit from my vision.
One of the driving forces behind Mariya’s Silky Skin was my personal struggle with shaving. It was always such a time-consuming process, and more often than not, it left my skin irritated and uncomfortable. I knew I wasn’t alone in this experience, and I saw an opportunity to make a real difference. I wanted to create a solution that not only saved time but also helped people feel more comfortable and confident in their own skin, no matter where they were or what they were doing.
With Mariya’s Silky Skin, I’ve combined cutting-edge Candela laser hair removal technology with rejuvenating Hydrafacial treatments to offer a holistic approach to skincare. Every service we provide is designed to enhance natural beauty while prioritizing comfort and convenience. My goal is to help clients feel like the best version of themselves—radiant, smooth, and completely at ease in their own skin.
This journey has been as rewarding as it has been challenging. Seeing the smiles on my clients’ faces and hearing how these treatments have positively impacted their lives makes every step of the process worthwhile. At Mariya’s Silky Skin, we’re not just offering services; we’re fostering confidence, self-love, and a sense of empowerment—one treatment at a time.

Mariya, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Mariya Madej, and I am a wife and proud mother of two boys. I grew up in Ukraine and have been continuing my journey in the United States for almost 20 years now. Throughout this time, my passion for the beauty industry has only grown stronger, leading me to establish Mariya’s Silky Skin.
At Mariya’s Silky Skin, I offer a wide range of services, including laser hair removal, skin pigmentation treatments, facial spider vein removal, teeth whitening, Hydrafacials, and premium skincare products. What truly sets me apart is my commitment to providing the highest quality service paired with deeply personalized client care. Building trust with my clients is something I take immense pride in, and it remains at the heart of everything I do.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Quality service can be rare and is truly appreciated by clients who recognize the effort and care behind it. People notice when you go the extra mile, and delivering exceptional, personal care can set you apart. When you consistently give your best, you naturally attract positive energy, and the amazing results you provide will speak for themselves, often bringing in new clients through word of mouth.
While marketing is essential, it’s equally important to stay true to yourself. Authenticity resonates with people. Additionally, aim to post content a few times a week, showcasing your work and sharing your passion. Keep it genuine and personal. Remember, it’s not about being perfect but about being you. That authenticity is what people connect with most.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Starting slow and taking baby steps is not just okay—it’s often the smartest approach when you’re building something from the ground up. Waiting longer to fully or nearly fund your investment gives you the freedom to make decisions without being overwhelmed by debt or large financial commitments early on. Especially when you’re just starting out, staying away from significant expenses or payments can protect your business from unnecessary risk.
In my case, I worked at a salon before branching out on my own. That experience was invaluable. It gave me insight into the true costs of running a business, from supplies to equipment, things I hadn’t fully understood before. It helped me see the importance of careful planning and incremental growth. You don’t need to dive in headfirst with all the bells and whistles—starting small allows you to learn, grow, and adjust as you go.
I wasn’t a financial expert when I began, but I made a point of educating myself. Talking to different banks and credit unions taught me a lot about financing, interest rates, and the options available. That time spent learning was an investment in itself. So, take your time, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to go slow. Every step you take, no matter how small, moves you closer to your goal.
