We recently connected with Marivano Lister and have shared our conversation below.
Marivano , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I feel like I always knew I wanted to pursue music growing up but I never was truly encouraged by my parents. Not that they did anything wrong or made any mistakes it’s just unheard of where I come from of a person becoming successful as an artist. However, it’s not uncommon to hear stories of such and such becoming a doctor, lawyer or politician. While growing up it was moments my little brother told me music was my calling. He would always catch me writing poetry, rapping or humming melodies in the background and I would always introduce him to new artists. In addition, My pops was a major influence I witnessed his career as an artist and performing which ultimately inspired me. He introduced me to Tupac, Public Enemy, NWA, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder & many more while as a youth. It was during college when I became serious about actually pursuing music professionally. I had a moment where I asked myself what I truly wanted and if my decisions where mine or influenced by others. I’m a man of my word so I still got the degree but from that point on I started living for what I wanted regardless of the outcome.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the music business after studying the industry for years. There is so much more I want to accomplish and everyday I’m learning something new which makes me more knowledeable to help others. The type of service my company provides, Pink Rodeo; is branding, marketing, production, distribution and fashion. When I started out I had to learn all this by reading novels, articles and internet searches. The problems I solve for clients is fast tracking the learning curve and helping making the process for aspiring artists to release music. I help clients understand who their target audiences are, their brand and how they should approach releases and different ways to market and grow on Spotify and other platforms. What sets me apart from others is I’m transparent, self driven, persistent & great at problem solving. There will never be another me and I will help clients avoid mistakes I did at the beginning of my career when I wished their was someone to help me. I can point people in the right direction. What I’m most proud of is how well I been able to fund my own projects independently, push out content and build a fanbase doing everything alone with no team. My brand represents the individual that are not afraid of taking risks and much as you get knocked down you keep fighting and working towards whatever goal you have.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is hearing stories of how you affected others. I’ve heard fans tell me how my music helped them cope with depression, heartbreak & suicide and that is touching. Overall, being able to connect with people through vulnerability and my stories shows how powerful music is. Furthermore, knowing I’ve inspired someone that they are not alone and that our stories are very similar. I’m not afraid to talk about domestic violence, human sex trafficking or any topics people are not talking about. I think that what is missing in music.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I don’t have it all figured out but I definitely noticed going to social events help. On social media posting consistently and content that people can associate specifically to your brand. For any business running ads, investing into marketing doing more reels on instagram, posting more on Tik Tok. If you can find a way to get influencers to help market your brand it will increase your brand success a lot quicker. Maybe, offering an affiliate program and special incentive.
