Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marius Neacsu. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Marius, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?

I’ve been interested in photography and filmmaking since I was ten. I knew I wanted to be a cinematographer when I was 15 years old, and after graduating from high school, I went to the Film University in Romania. After graduating from university, I worked at one of Romania’s largest film studios, “Media Pro Pictures,” where I worked with outstanding professional filmmakers on a few feature movies, one of which was a co-production between the United States and Romania, and the other between Romania and France. Before leaving Romania, I worked for Romanian National Television, focusing on documentaries throughout Romania and Europe. My work was honored with a few awards, including “The Best Cinematography.”

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I’m a filmmaker. I’ve made several short, and feature films, commercials, and video clips throughout my 25 years in this field. I film and edit most of my work. I’ve been fortunate enough to make many movies and documentaries in America and Romania. After one year in Los Angeles, I was working on a short film with Christopher Atkins, Kim Kopf, Ernest Pierce, Tracy Brooks Swope, and other lovely folks. I collaborated with the Lopez Negrete Agency in New York, and I did commercials for well-known brands such as Verizon, Walmart, Rubbermaid, Cook-Pot, Coleman, Star Trac, and others. I worked for a company for three years, filming short testimonials (short videos) to promote small businesses, and I had the opportunity to travel all around America, gaining diverse experiences. In Los Angeles, I had the opportunity to film short and feature films, several of which won awards at film festivals. I am so proud of where I am in life and what I’m doing. I’m a highly committed individual with the adaptability needed to succeed in this field. I like collaborating with people and turning their concepts into visuals.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

I’ve lived in America for ten years and started from scratch in Los Angeles. I can’t claim it’s easy to start from scratch in this industry when you don’t have a referral or know anyone. When I initially came to Los Angeles, a filmmaker told me, “There are 10,000 people like you in Los Angeles, and they’re all looking for the same thing as you. The only difference between you and them in time will be your dedication and your ability to withstand the ups and downs that this profession has to offer”. I discovered a way to keep doing what I love because of my resilience. There is one quote that has always motivated me and stayed with me: “Where there is a will, there’s a way” Albert Einstein.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

In my filmmaking career, I’ve pivoted a handful of times, but each time was a tangent from the film tree. One was when I switched from feature films to documentaries, but it was a fantastic experience that helped me greatly expand my talents. Second, when I moved to Los Angeles, I used my entire experience to tell people about myself, using the image and my skills to add that special element that can’t be named but makes a difference when you see the story through the image. In today’s AI environment, I believe that what distinguishes me from others and technology is my vision, my unique style of seeing and conveying the things that may affect people and attract their attention.
