Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Maritza Luna. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Maritza thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Often outsiders look at a successful business and think it became a success overnight. Even media and especially movies love to gloss over nitty, gritty details that went into that middle phase of your business – after you started but before you got to where you are today. In our experience, overnight success is usually the result of years of hard work laying the foundation for success, but unfortunately, it’s exactly this part of the story that most of the media ignores. Can you talk to us about your scaling up story – what are some of the nitty, gritty details folks should know about?
When I first started my business I ran with what everyone wanted me to do. I didn’t listen to my gut and ideas that I had coming forward.
Back in about 2014 I started the year of facing my fears. I started my YouTube page, webseries, and building my brand on my own.
What I found is that when I was myself and surrounded people who also supported that, my business’ grew so much faster.
Maritza, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
After years of working retail and corporate jobs I found myself really unhappy. In 2012, at the age of 30 I had a health scare and my life changed.
I was let go from my job. Then I started attended these spiritual classes and going to a naturopathic doctor. From there the doors to me becoming a healer blew open.
I started working with a lot of woman. I come from a marketing and psychology background and starting my business was an extension of what I learned through my formal education.
I started small, giving readings. And learning energy work with a medicine man. And then I find my true footing in my native roots and ceremony.
My practice evolved into working work woman who were coming in, unhappy, in abusive relationship. I found myself leading then back to their dreams, taking action and living a life that was for filling for them. Many times in ways they didn’t even think of because they were never given the space to explore who they truly were.
In ten years I have 100s of hours of studies with teachers, mentors and formal education. I took my path seriously and also used it to heal my life.
Two years ago I become an Author and created Fairy Medicine Oracle. I still offer sessions and readings. I consult people in ways that not only helps them heal but allows them to heal on different levels. As well as breakdown old generational barriers.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
5 years back I was homeless. I was living in my car that I was renting. I think my business income was about 800 a month at the time. I barley had enough for food. And was couch surfing when I was not sleeping in my car.
So many people told me to give up my dreams. But I felt in my heart I didn’t want to. I was breaking a lot of old relationship with abuse and unhealthy mental habits.
I started following my heart and guidance. For a few months a friend of mine wanted to buy me a car and I would pay her $300 a month. I kept turning her down. But one day I finally accepted.
My life after that changed. She told me a part of her felt she had to do this for me. That it would change my life.
I began sticking to my daily practice and healing. And within 3 weeks I was renting a home in the space I wanted. My life was never the same after that in an amazing way.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Pivot! Lol. Oh man, when you own a business this word becomes your best friend. You have to learn to dance that dance.
It’s an art from that you learn is different with every business energy blueprint.
One of my major pivots was shifting out of the “toxic positivity” marketing. It didn’t feel authentic to me. I felt that it was not representing my work or my brand because healing is about facing adversity in a healthier way.
I got a lot of backlash as first, I lost clients, and income. But I knew that I had to make this change.
Within a few months the energy of my business change, I brought in key clients and connections. It felt a lot more solid and those that were continuing to work with me felt the same way.
As your change, so does your business. It grows with you.
