We were lucky to catch up with Marissa Stahl recently and have shared our conversation below.
Marissa, appreciate you joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
The name for Cherry Creative came from my middle name, “Cherry.” Cherry was my great-great-grandmother’s last name, Caroline Cherry. So while the name “Cherry Creative” is a cutesy name for an agency, it has a more personal meaning to me.
Marissa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Cherry Creative is a boutique agency that serves as your in-house marketing team. The idea for this agency developed organically from a career that began in Social Media Marketing. When I started Cherry Creative, I realized that a lot of the clients we were working with did not have the marketing channels outside of social media optimized or aligned to achieve the best results. With digital marketing, everything needs to be in sync in order to be effective. It felt natural to expand our services to offer strategy and management for digital marketing channels outside of just social.
We understand the critical importance of having every facet of a business’ digital marketing strategy be in harmony.
Whether it’s aligning organic social endeavors with email campaigns, orchestrating ad initiatives, creating fruitful partnerships, or diving into other areas of your business, our expertise spans the spectrum. Consider us your dedicated in-house marketing team, but with minimal oversight. We immerse ourselves in the essence of a brand, mastering its nuances, and crafting bespoke strategies to amplify its message, attract new clientele, and drive sales—all at a fraction of the cost of maintaining an internal team. Our portfolio boasts successful collaborations across a diverse range of industries, including fashion, fitness, music, nightlife, hospitality, lifestyle, beauty, spirits, consumer goods, and renowned personalities.
There’s no challenge too big and no project too small. I’m most proud of the businesses that we have helped build and the founders that we’ve joined to be a small part in making their dream business successful. We have the honor of working with very passionate people who believe in what they’re doing and are going after something bigger than themselves. That’s what get’s me excited for work every day.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I like to lead with trust and transparency. Shortly after starting Cherry Creative, I read Brene Brown’s “Dare To Lead” and it had a very positive impact on my leadership style. The book outlines how leading with vulnerability and empathy creates trust within a team and a safe space for failure. Failure is important in creative work. You have to foster an environment that gives your team a chance to try new things, take risks, expand upon skills outside of their comfort zone and push them to grow. I’ve been very lucky to have multiple team members stay at Cherry Creative for over 3 years and I think this is in part due to the amount of trust that I have given them. I trust that everyone on my team will be accountable for their work and will continue to strive for excellence, while giving them space to execute in a way that works best for them.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
We truly become a partner for the brands that we work with and tend to not have a lot of client turnover, that is the best business card. Our clients know how dedicated we are and are our biggest source of referral. It is truly the best compliment when a client or past client refers us to someone in their network. That definitely means we are doing something right. We take pride in what we do and are passionate about the brands that we work with. That passion and dedication shows through our commitment to find solutions, think of new innovative ways to market our clients businesses and assist in business expansion outside of our scope.
