Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marissa Jackson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Marissa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Around 2019 I begin to sit and think about how can i (myself ) help bring change to peoples life in a positive way and let them know that prayer makes a difference. So I used my life story growing up in Hempstead, Long Island, New York in the struggle and the only way me and my family made it out was through the power of a prayer and keeping faith. I use this real life method of ministry to tell the masses in form of Stage Plays, which has given others hope thus far, and my journey can continue to change lives and encourage.
I never though I’d be a playwright, I am a caterer and have been over 20 years now, so this definitely was something placed on me from God. I love every bit of it.
Marissa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Marissa D Jackson, born and raised in Hempstead, NY. I am 42 years old and now residing in PG County, Maryland, which is where I’ve been now 10 years. I am in the Payroll field I cater and I am a Playwright. My life has not been the easiest and I have been through many disappointments, as we all have, but I have strong faith and believe in the power of Prayer, and that is what gets me through everyday life. Moving to Maryland truly changed my life in many ways, but most of all and the greatest way was bringing me closer to the Lord.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
r- Change in people after seeing these plays. Coming up to me in tears because they don’t realize how many others have been through struggles, or most don’t want to share because of embarrassment. So when they see this it gives them hope and encourages them that its ok to tell your story and that praying is a key to survival and making it out of anything. This is the most rewarding piece I get from putting these productions on, it tells me I’ve done what I was suppose to do, and I can look up to the skies and say thank you God for giving me the creative way to bring the masses closer to you or even just hope for themselves in there everyday life.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When relocating to Maryland from New York almost made me go back home because of the struggle in change and uncomfortable lifestyle.
