We recently connected with Marissa Gámez and have shared our conversation below.
Marissa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Looking back, what’s an important lesson you learned at a prior job?
In my past corporate roles, I learned lessons in adaptability. I was working with big Fortune 500 companies in Legal and Contracts, navigating intense deadlines and unexpected challenges. At first, it felt overwhelming, but over time, I realized that being flexible and open to change made all the difference.
When I decided to leave corporate life and start Míra Matcha, that lesson was everything. I knew that the journey wouldn’t be straightforward and that I’d have to adapt and find creative solutions, just like in my previous roles. Starting my own business brought its own set of unexpected challenges, but every time something got tough, I drew on that experience. It’s what’s kept me grounded, resilient, and excited to build something meaningful for my community.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Marissa Gámez, the founder of Míra Matcha, San Antonio native, Navy veteran, and a second-generation Mexican-American. My journey to Míra Matcha began after years in the military and corporate world, but it was a trip to Mexico City with my partner that truly inspired our business. Over daily matcha lattes, we realized we wanted to bring the flavors of our heritage—like Coconut Horchata, Lavender Agave, and Mexican Vanilla—into a healthier caffeine option for our community.
Míra Matcha offers unique, Latin-inspired matcha blends made without sugar, using monk fruit and allulose to support health goals without sacrificing taste. What sets us apart is our connection to our roots and community. We aren’t just selling matcha; we’re sharing a piece of our culture and passion for wellness with every sip.
Through pop-ups, collaborations, and sharing our story, we aim to create an experience that goes beyond the cup, inviting people to choose a lifestyle that’s both authentic and nourishing. I’m proud of what we’ve built and can’t wait to grow alongside lovers of matcha.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building Míra Matcha’s social media audience was all about sharing our story and connecting locally. I wanted to create a space where people felt the heart behind our brand. Starting out, I focused on posting about our journey—why we created Míra Matcha, what inspired our flavors, and behind-the-scenes glimpses into building the business.
We also made a point to tag local spots, especially when doing pop-ups in San Antonio. Collaborating with nearby businesses and supporting other creators helped us build genuine connections. I didn’t rely on ads; instead, I responded to comments, posted stories from our events, and shared my own journey with matcha. The response was better than i thought, and the audience we built felt more like a community, invested in Míra Matcha and what we stand for locally.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I’m naturally introverted, so stepping into crowded spaces and talking with strangers to represent Míra Matcha was intimidating. Before each event, I’d sit in my car and give myself a pep talk to push past the nerves.
At one particular market, I wasn’t feeling my best. I was full of anxiety and really just wanted to turn the car back on and go home. But I decided to stay, offered samples, and shared the story behind our flavors. But it turned out, a few people we met that day really helped open up doors for us down the road.
Moments like that taught me to push forward, even when things aren’t the most comfortable. Fighting through the discomfort has helped build the foundation for every small success that’s followed.
