We recently connected with Marissa Eschenburg and have shared our conversation below.
Marissa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Any advice for creating a more inclusive workplace?
An inclusive workplace starts with your attitude, choices, and how you communicate.
Giving access to all members of a space and avoiding excluding anyone regardless of their background, culture, race, gender, sexuality, or ability builds relationships, partnerships, and opportunities for everyone.
What’s shaped my view of this topic are the many experiences with hosting events and my commitment to being a leader who people in the industry can learn from and most importantly a chance for myself to learn from others along the way.
Advice I can give is that you must spend one-on-one time with people throughout your team regardless of their position within. The input someone might have for you may be just what you need to be more inclusive, so listening and not just talking to your team is crucial.
Marissa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Let me start off with what I do in order of how I blossomed into where I am today. I am a makeup artist, event coordinator, wedding planner, and production director who travels wherever and whenever to meet and get creative with people from all over the world, and who will always be your #1 go-to for support and inspiration!
I became a part of the industry from getting my first tattoo and building a wonderful friendly relationship that I am so thankful for. Then arose an opportunity for myself, which turned into attending events with vendors alike, then that turned into wanting to do things differently and bash the glass ceiling on traditional and trendy events. If you need an out-of-the-ordinary makeup look, I’m there. If you need a cultural fusion photoshoot planned, I’m on it. The norm for me might be crazy for others, and I’m all aboard for all the ideas you have to spill to me.
Not only will I continue to focus on DEI, but also liberating and healing experiences incorporated into my life and business journey. I will always search for more ways to educate myself and grow my knowledge within these aspects to share with others so they too can utilize it within their life and business.
Real-life connections I make by conversing with others and word of mouth are the best source for new clients for me and my business.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I don’t like to focus on social media as much as I used to because that itself can be a full-time job, and the real-life relationships I have are so important to me where my presence is needed. The only advice I can give is to find a balance between social media and real life.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Honestly, the real-life connections I make by communicating and conversing with others and word of mouth are the best sources of new clients.
