We were lucky to catch up with Marisol Morales recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Marisol, thanks for joining us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I started my brow journey almost 5 years ago but didn’t go full time with my business until about 3 years in. I was fortunate enough to work for a company that gave me a pretty well rounded learning experience to be able to open my business confidently.
It was a retail environment but it also had services as well – so I was able to dedicate more of a focus on customer experience while not having to worry about paying for supplies or retail products. I was also able to see aspects of their process that I knew I didn’t want to continue or things that I wanted to implement in my business. Overall, being at that company for that time was the best thing I could do for my business. It really gave me the time to make sure I had a thorough plan of execution.
Marisol, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I actually got into the beauty industry with the intent to be a hairstylist but quickly realized that it wasn’t my calling and decided to go a different route. I remember getting my first job at the Benefit Brow Bar and knowing that I had found my calling.
My focus in my studio is brows so I offer waxing, tinting, tweezing, and brow lamination services. What sets me apart from other brow artists is definitely my adaptability. If you scroll through my Instagram right now you will notice that there are people of all different racial backgrounds and people that have all different hair textures. I call myself a brow specialist because I am able to adjust my techniques to anyone that comes through the door regardless of how they look.
In addition to that, I don’t look at anyone coming in for a service as a client because to me, that sounds like a transaction more than a relationship. My brow studio is a comforting place for me so anyone that comes into that space is a guest.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
As cliche as it sounds, being myself. I know that there are many people that will not only choose me for my skill but because I am authentic and maybe because I have a good mix of music in my studio as well ;)
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Social media has definitely been a great help for my business – even though I am still getting the hang of TikTok :)
I also have a good amount of reviews on Google and GlossGenius which is always helpful for new guests to see how other peoples experience with me has been.
