Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marisol Hernandez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Marisol, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you manage your own social media?
I still manage my own social media channels. Managing my social media while having a full-time day job and being a single mom can get hectic at times. But i’m currently enjoying engaging on a personal level with customers and followers.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a 35 year old single mom, an insurance licensing/contracts guru, small business owner – still learning how to balance it all. I’ve always used my personal Instagram account as an outlet to share my life journey. I’m very open and what you see is really me. I’m very much a girly girl and love all things jewelry, makeup, clothes, etc. So in 2021, I decided to open up an online jewelry shop for women, named Brave Bijoux. The goal has been to have both classic and trendy jewelry pieces at an affordable price. One of my favorite parts of Brave Bijoux is naming new inventory pieces. I like to give each piece a meaningful name. For example, we have a bangle named Amia, which means love, and another bracelet named Bridget, which means power or strength. I want our clients to wear pieces with a deeper meaning behind them; just as reminder that you are strong, your are loved, you are brave.
How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
I currently sell on my site. I carry my inventory so it’s easy to put together packages and ship them. The only con I’ve encountered is fulfilling orders when we have sales. With working full time as well, it gets chaotic to fulfill and ship orders on my own. But it’s only temporary. I believe I’ll reach a point soon where I can bring on an employee to help with these daily tasks.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients have been ads on social media and hosting pop-up shops with local businesses. The ads help with more traffic on the websites, which turn into sales. The pop-ups are amazing because it allows me to interact on a personal level with new clients.
