Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marisa Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Marisa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?
My client called me after joining my online masterclass. She was in her early 50’s and lost her zest for life. Old traumas from her childhood and past marriage kept resurfacing and she could no longer focus on what she loved most – teaching art. She had put her career on hold because of depression.
I worked with her through my coaching program and we did some deep work and discovery regarding her past traumas. Through our sessions, we integrated my exercises into her yoga and meditation practices. I gave her prompts for focused journaling and when she had come far in her healing, I even gave her assignments that included taking out her art supplies again.
After 6 months she emerged a new woman. She was painting often and creating beautiful pieces that represented her healing. Ideas came through her again and she was reawakened.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a mindset coach and mental health advocate. For 30 years I had a successful career implementing multi-million dollar global technology projects. But behind that success I had severe depression from childhood abuse, then drugs and alcohol addiction, a codependent marriage and infertility. I spent years hiding that part of my life in shame. After a divorce in 2010, I started on a healing journey that led me to where I am today.
Since then, I have published my memoir, The Lotus Tattoo: One Woman’s Grit from Bully to Redemption and started my company, Everyday Being. Everyday Being is about living in the present moments of our lives, with mindful intention, and always making ourselves a priority.
I have developed a 6-month intensive bootcamp called Mindset Warrior: The Art of Intentional Thinking – in this bootcamp, I work 1-1 with my clients to take apart everything they know about themselves so they can learn to heal the burdens they still carry and build a Foundation of Strength for moving forward with self-love, self-confidence and trust in everything they do.
So many of us wake up one day and don’t know who we are, what our values are and what we want in life. What I love most about my business is that I am able to help women find true healing from old wounds. To help them rediscover who they are and really know their identity. My favorite part of my program is watching my clients ‘soften’ over time as you can visually see the healing in how they carry themselves. And most of all, they can feel it within themselves.
What sets me apart from others is my coaching style. My weekly sessions for clients can go 1-2 hours, depending on what they need at the time. Our pace in the program is determined by my client’s emotional strength. There is accountability from me, while offering a safe and non-judgmental environment for my clients. The work we do together is intense, but we also find time to laugh at our imperfections and be proud of the growth in the process.
Some of my clients have had severe trauma they’ve been carrying most of their life – physical, sexual, emotional abuse, a traumatic event. Some just want a reset to discover who they are. In all cases, they find healing and learn to live life with their Everyday Being – and a new awareness that honors their authentic self.
I think back on the old me – I thought I was strong, confident and survivor – yet I was broken inside, as many of us are. Now I am able to give back to other women the true gift of healing through loving and honoring their authentic self.
Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
In the fall of 2019, I published my memoir, The Lotus Tattoo, and I started to partner with domestic violence organizations and trauma healers. I had written several talks and workshops and started to look at venues around town to teach in. Just a few months later, Covid hit and everything was locked down. My plans for the business was all in-person events and I thought I would wait it out. But weeks turned to months and my passion for helping others could no longer wait.
I started taking classes and hired a business coach to help me move online. My workshops became online courses and a masterclass. I did virtual talks for private online support groups, fundraisers with my book for non-profits and got invited to podcasts and interviews. Some of the events were paid, some free, but I was getting coaching clients through these events. And because everyone was virtual, it actually expanded my footprint outside of Colorado. I was surprised when my first client was from Norway! The location and time zone wasn’t an issue for me since I was in the tech field for so many years and used to working globally.
The pivot also gave me time to work on my signature program, Mindset Warrior: The Art of Intentional Thinking, which is what I am most proud of today!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source for new clients is for someone to engage with me, either by meeting me in person or hearing me in a talk, interview, or podcast.
Selecting a coach is a very personal decision and you need to feel comfortable with the person you hire as your coach. Especially when you are working through very difficult emotions of trauma. No one is going to hire me from an online ad. They have to know me, hear me speak, understand where my mindset is, and my ideas have to align with them. Ultimately, it’s about trust, and the only way someone can trust me is by listening to what I have to say. If it resonates, then they will quickly schedule a call with me.
