We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marisa Douty. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marisa below.
Marisa, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
Every wedding or event I am working on, I take extra care because these are the most important events in people’s lives. One thing I love to do is make sure every event I flower for, I provide a personalized touch.
I had a past couple that were SO kind to me throughout the entire planning process. They were gracious, let me have creative freedom which showed they really trusted me. Because I appreciate their kindness and trust, I upgraded their centerpieces without them knowing until the day of the wedding. Instead of doing smaller bud vases on each table, I mixed in large centerpieces throughout the room.
When they saw the room they were so happy, so excited, and they knew right away that I had upgraded their centerpieces.
So many hugs and tears were had that day! It felt so good to do something kind for such a deserving couple. I know it made them happy, and it made me happy to know that they had the best day ever.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a wedding and event florist. I went through a floral program at my college and I knew from that moment that this was the career for me.
I always knew I wanted to own my own business and that I am a creative person. So floral design business was a no brainer.
I am the type of florist that wants to make sure that every couple has a special, personalized, and carefree day. Give me your inspiration, give me your trust, and I will make sure you are happy and surrounded by beautiful flowers. I make every couple feel like family! They are letting me be a small part of their biggest day, so the least I can do is match their kindness, stay in communication, and make sure they are getting exactly what they want.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I was working a full time office job and coming home and working on my floral business at nights and on the weekends of course. So I was setting myself up to be comfortable going full time when the time was right.
It was a natural progression, but it was a lot of work, no sleep, and a leap of faith!

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is for every couple to walk away from our journey together and think, “wow the was the best decision we made for our wedding”. I want it to be an easy, carefree, and fun experience to work with me. Weddings shouldnt be stressful, they should be fun! They should be personal! It only happens once. I want to make sure that the flowers are the easiest part!
