We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mariposa. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mariposa below.
Mariposa, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you take vacations? How do you keep things going – any advice for entrepreneurs who feel like they can’t step away from their business for a short vacation?
There was a time when I would have vacation left over and sell it back to the company for the money. Now, I always consume all my available vacation days or PTO (paid time off for those in corporate) to take vacations and time away. Here in the U.S. we are admittedly workaholics, while in other places around the world people greatly value their ‘holiday’ and down time. For me, due to my affiliations with those in academia, from a young age I was aware of sabbaticals some professors would take. It was somewhat baffling as a child why someone would want a need up to a year off after attaining the esteemed accomplishment of being a college professor. Fast forward to today – I certainly understand the pressures or work, performance and day to day life – and do think more people in general value the ability to take vacation, have down time, regardless of their respective industry.
Now post Covid shut down, the vacation industry is booming again. Most everyone is outside! The value of vacation whether an active, adventure vacation or a relaxing spa like activity, is realized by many and people are getting out. I am for sure! I definitely value the ability to take in new vistas and renew my body, mind and spirit by taking time off from the daily grind. Travel is invigorating for me. I cherish my vacations.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The mission driving my creative journey is educating the masses. I do believe education is the equalizer. Not necessarily only a formal education i.e. 4 years of college etc. I do believe education comes in many forms. Exposure is a great educator for most. Seeing and experiencing different aspects of life, different parts of the world, different thinking about traditional things – all of these variables help to educate and broaden horizons.
On 30 Minute Podcast, as co host I propose some of those different elements for people to discover the beautify within and external that exists on this planet earth. There is splendor out in the world for all of us to partake of. We just need to take the steps to explore. That can come through reading, travel, talking with elders about their experiences, etc.
The phase coined “Each one teach one” has never been more important than it is today. I do feel those of us already on a successful path can continue to assist others to be their best selves, as well.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn was being in ‘the clean plate club’ LOL. It sounds funny but from childhood I was raised to clean my plate every time, every meal and not to waste food. Now with more information about nutrition, our digestive systems and metabolism generally. I’m MUCH better equipped to know which portion sizes and foods are appropriate for me. I also now know that I was overeating most of the time – which explained being sluggish part of the time. Not anymore. I eat for energy to accomplish the things that help me and my business thrive. My energy is vibrant. It’s truly a know better do better scenario.
