We were lucky to catch up with Mario Salomon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mario, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I dreamed to be a musician from a very early age, when I was around 11 or 12 years old I knew this is what I wanted to be professionally, for the rest of my live.
Mario, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Mario Salomon, I was born in 1982 in the small rural city of Florida, Camaguey, Cuba. At a very early age I started playing along the music my parents play at home, banging on my mother’s makeup boxes, cookies tin boxes, pans and other things around the house, with wood sticks I used to cut from trees. At the age of 18 I went to an audition for drummers, and was chosen to play at a Cabaret show, where I learned different styles of music, and started playing as a professional. After that I played with multiple bands in my town, went on tour outside of Cuban, started writing songs for different groups in my hometown.
I provide live music performances for public and private events, specific Cuban/Latin music, with my band “Mario y su Timbeko”, you can find us on Social Media.
I am proud of the band I put together since it was and still is a very difficult thing to do, I am proud of the love that my fans show to my music, and I am very very proud of my family..
I want my potential clients to know that they will receive a professional performance for their events, and the best price for it.
To my followers and fans please keep supporting by listening, sharing, streaming my music and coming to my shows, you are a very important part of my inspiration to keep writing new songs.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
To built my audience I used long and short videos, as we all know now short videos are very important this days, so don’t waist them, I also used pictures from live shows, recording studio sessions. That way you can give an idea to a new audience how much fun your shows are, and that your are working on new music for them, so that they want to come to your show next time you are near to their city.
Advice for those just starting is: To be patient this takes time and lo of work, be original by using your words in your posts, don’t copy someone else phrases. There are a lot of people out there that would love to see who you really are as a person, and as an artist
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In October/5/2019 I got the opportunity to perform at a Festival in Oakland, California with my band “Mario y su Timbeko” but none of the three singers that I was using at that time were available, so first I said that we were not available to the organizer of the Festival, she reply to me with: people really love your band, there is anything you can do to make it happen, so I decided I was going to sing my songs and play timbales at the same time, and I did it. From that day on I became not just the composer, bandleader of my band, now I am the lead singer of Timbeko.
