We were lucky to catch up with Mario Nobilio recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Mario thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
Finding a balance between living a “regular” life and meaningful involvement in creative endeavors has always been a challenge. The dependability on a steady paycheck is a very comforting thing when it’s time to pay the bills. Making time to do all the things needed to have progress in a creative career is definitely a tight rope walk. So for myself i am still doing both, but trying to get myself in a situation where the creative side is the top priority all the time.

Mario, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a bass guitarist, most of my time is spent serving others. From simple things such as ensuring thorough communication and following a schedule, to more individualized skills as making musical charts for other musicians and assisting them in learning the material. Often little tasks to assist the artist or group in completing goal and remaining on schedule become some of the main skills that people have brought me into projects. Having good personal interaction skills has allowed me to travel and perform with a wide variety of musical projects. Being a asset to the people you are working with helps make the adventure a lot more productive and fun, and has lead to some people referring me to others for separate projects.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Meeting new people, traveling to making excellent music to share with others. Sharing moments with strangers and becoming friends while doing something you love is a bigger treat than driving several hours to get to there. By playing music i have been across the country in places i never even thought to visit otherwise. Sharing your art with others can be such a enjoyable and nerve wracking experience.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
There are outlets now such as Youtube with interviews and podcasts that allow you to hear others stories have been very beneficial to me. From seeking general inspiration to finding answers to a particular challenge has been helpful. Also have had several great moments talking with other musicians and artists has led me to explore several options i wouldn’t have even considered before talking with them.
