Today we’d like to introduce you to Mario Cerrito.
Hi Mario, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I had always been a writer and story creator for as long as I could remember.
When I was about 12 years old I wrote my first horror story. I was always very interested in the horror genre.
After my baseball career ended in college I went for a period of about 10 years without finding another passion.
I wrote my first official screenplay in 2007 and in 2012 I produced my first official film. Although it was only a trailer, I loved the process and that led me to creating my first feature film titled Deadly Gamble in 2013. Long story short it is 2025 and I’m embarking on making my 5th feature film (Human Hibachi 3: The Last Supper.) This film will complete the Human Hibachi trilogy.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I would say for the most part it has been a smooth road. Filmmaking and especially horror filmmaking comes pretty easy to me. The hardest part is securing funding for each movie.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My most notable work is the Human Hibachi series.
Each film has won the best film award at the New Jersey Horror Con and Film Festival in Atlantic City. They are signed to the legendary Troma Entertainment (which happens to be the longest running independent film studio in the world.) The films have picked up a cult following around the world and physical media has sold in 13 different countries. The movie has been in stores as far as Tokyo and Australia.
The movies have been listed on horror critic and websites top 10 and even top 5 lists as favorite or best found footage movies.
I think what sets me apart is some originality I put into my films. I don’t like to follow the trend.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Wash your hands!
