We were lucky to catch up with Mario Canon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Mario, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
One of the biggest risks Ive ever took was putting my job I had for 6 years after recently being promoted. I was an assistant manager at cellphone company. I was working full time plus overtime and pursuing my music career. I had recently gotten into fitness as well so for the past couple years I had been sculpting my body. I was exceptionally well at my job so I had a lot of repeat customers. One of them owned a gym franchise and told me I was wasting my talents celling phones and I should work for myself being a persona trainer. He said it would free up my time for creativity and it would be fufilling. I asked “how much do they make?” He said “how much do you want to make?”. It was scariest thing I ever did. I had two kids young and major bills at the same time how was I going to make this work? That first week training I blew up! My old job even called me back offering more money and a promotion but I was enjoying my freedom. I was able to invest more into my music career and eventually ended up on television as well! A few years as a trainer and I bought the gym franchise!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a rapper /actor/Entrepreneur/personal trainer/motivation speaker. I provide entertainment, lifestyle change, real estate, motivation and some pretty powerful music. What sets me apart is my genuine care and lack social conform. I am a free thinker and push people to live their own best versions of their lives. Im proud of changing the trajectory that’s placed on people like me from neighborhoods like mine. Im proud that I can show young men and women that anything isn possible with handwork and consistently putting forth effort.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is when someone tells you your art helped them or inspired them to be great. There’s nothing like it! When a fan tells me my music or something I said touched
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Honestly reading 75 Hard by Andy Fricsella and Brad Lea The Hard Way. After participating in the 75 hard challenge it really pushed me to go above and beyond my normal routine. It made me realize how powerful the human mind is . I had to create the narrative I wanted mentally and then write down my goals! I stopped looking sympathy and empathy and started looking foe solutions.
