We recently connected with Marina Yanay-Triner and have shared our conversation below.
Marina, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you scale up? What were the strategies, tactics, meaningful moments, twists/turns, obstacles, mistakes along the way? The world needs to hear more realistic, actionable stories about this critical part of the business building journey. Tell us your scaling up story – bring us along so we can understand what it was like making the decisions you had, implementing the strategies/tactics etc.
I remember always looking at other business owners and thinking they are an overnight success. That’s how business is often portrayed in our glossy world today. This is so far from the truth! I must say that I continue to scale up all the time. It isn’t just one moment, strategy or event.
The greatest attribute to my own scaling is my own healing journey. The more I heal my relationship with money, abundance and expand my ability to hold my own success, the more I expand the flow of money into my life.
Years ago when I started my business, I was obsessed with learning marketing strategies. I’m so glad I earned those, of course they are still helpful for me today. But at the end of the day, the greatest thing that has helped me is being in touch with my own body, my own truth, and marketing how I want to, rather than how someone told me to.
I check in with my body constantly – does it feel right to write something like this? Does the pricing feel aligned with me? Etc. This has made the biggest difference to my success!
Marina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am the compassionate somatic coach, and I support my clients in creating a deep connection to their body that allows them to create the life of their dreams. This story starts when I was 22 years old, and studied conflict transformation through dialogue facilitation for 2 intense years, in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Through working in the facilitation field for 10 years, I learned so much about the ability of humans to transform and grow, and witnessed deep amounts of trauma.
I started to get curious about how people who have experienced trauma of all kinds operate, and this was also in parallel with my own healing journey, as I started to move out of the traditional coaching industry that focuses on mindset, and out of the traditional therapy realm into somatics.
In the body-based world, we can move through trauma from within the body, and it has a huge impact on our healing and our ability to create the life we desire. I work with my clients through body-based methods in moving through their own stuck points and really examining how they have repeated patterns that they have inherited from previous generations – to actually shift into the life that THEY desire.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
That people + money cannot be trusted. I was born as a minority (Jew) in communist Ukraine, and then moved to Israel and became a minority again, as well as in the USA. Throughout this journey, the message was always – hide everything, do not share, do not trust anyone. Hold your money tight, don’t tell anyone how much you have, be careful.
My whole life journey so far has been about cultivating that trust and connection with my own body, and with other people, and with money – and all of these are connected!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I worked as a nutrition coach for 4 years, and was super stuck in that business. When I worked with my first coach, she told me one of the most powerful sentences I have ever heard that continues to be with me today and launched my whole current career: “your business is a trauma response”. I realized that those same ways of being I had in my life around money and relationships also showed up in my business. I was terrified and reactive. I had no trust and no perception of choice. I felt stuck. Figuring out this stuckness became my own biggest lesson, and that’s what I now walk others through!
At one point, plant based coaching no longer felt really aligned for me and I fought that so hard before I finally allowed myself to make the switch. So many fears came up about the identity I was giving up! I am so happy I did it!
