We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Marina Sbrochi a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Marina, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
A client that traveled for work and was extremely anxious. She would take a prescription and be so sleepy when she arrived for the meeting, it was really wearing on her.
Fast forward to a few months later. She listens to an audio specifically made for her and pops her ear buds in and takes her flight and makes it to her meeting — fresh and ready!
A professional archer that used hypnosis to streamline his shot for an improvement that won him 1st place.
Marina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have “gotten into” all the different careers I have had, because of curiosity.
I found hypnosis when I was 20 years old and had insomnia. Nothing worked until I found that hypnosis cassette tape. (it was that LONG ago) Fast forward to 2016, I’m graduating with a Masters in Professional Counseling and have the opportunity to be trained from the Milton Erickson Foundation. Dr. Erickson is one of the most famous hypnotists.
Learning different skills for making changes in all sorts of areas using hypnosis really opened the door for what I am doing right now. My venture, Better Than a Boardroom utilizes a combination of hypnosis, guided imagination and neuroscience to allow the client to find solutions that were previously unknown to them.
On a one on one basis, I combine things I have learned from my masters, along with hypnosis and linguistics to help clients make changes in their lives.
For groups and companies, I take guided imagination and supercharge a session that is tailored for exactly the clients needs.
For example, I have worked with a large female owned advertising agency to create a special session just for them to brainstorm new client ideas. I have also worked with them for company meditations.
During covid, I have helped many clients learn to calm down their anxious minds and show them tools to navigate challenges. I was on Good Morning Texas with tips for using hypnosis for covid related anxiety.
It’s no secret that we have all been affected by this pandemic.
I enjoy using the skills I have to help clients find relaxation and new solutions.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest lesson I had to unlearn was chasing goals not set by me.
Of course, you don’t realize that some of these goals aren’t yours. Most of us grew up in a family environment, so you might grow up thinking and maybe are told (directly or indirectly) that you need to do this too. Maybe you don’t question it and just assign it to a goal of yours.
Likewise, I was told that I would never make money being an actor or creative. This goes on and on through life.
So I chased all the goals I thought I was supposed to get. College graduate. Check. Job. Check. Married. Check. Children. Check. Lose the job because of children. Check. Divorce. Check.
Wait…..
I finally figured out there is no exact formula for how to live a life. My life doesn’t have to look like my parents or anyone, except my own.
Chasing your dreams, your talents and your goals will always get your further than chasing goals that are not yours.
Spending time to get clear on what I want — has made all the difference.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I am always reading something or listening to something on Audible. I have book recommendations for years.
