Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marilina Crowe. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Marilina, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Successful event planners in this domain must possess a keen eye for design and a knack for transforming ordinary spaces into extraordinary experiences. They should be able to curate every aspect of an event, from the ambiance and decor to the menu and entertainment, all while ensuring a cohesive and unforgettable experience tailored to the client’s vision. Furthermore, they must stay ahead of trends, constantly seeking inspiration from various sources to offer fresh and innovative ideas that set them apart from the competition.
In an industry inundated with options, building a strong personal brand and cultivating a loyal client base is crucial. Excellent communication skills, responsiveness, and a genuine commitment to exceeding client expectations can foster long-lasting relationships and positive word-of-mouth referrals. Event planners who excel at anticipating and addressing clients’ concerns, while providing a seamless and stress-free experience, are more likely to establish a reputation for excellence and stand out in this crowded market.
Marilina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I never considered myself an artist until I began to recognize that art comes in many forms. Creativity or artistic work is not limited to those who create tangible works like paintings or sculptures. As an event planner, I have the opportunity to transform ordinary spaces into extraordinary experiences, curating every aspect to evoke specific emotions and memories. From the ambiance and decor to the flow of the event itself, each detail is carefully crafted to bring a client’s vision to life in a way that is both visually striking and deeply meaningful.
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative in this field is the ability to elicit joy, wonder, and lasting memories through my work. Witnessing the expressions of awe and delight on the faces of my clients and their guests as they immerse themselves in the meticulously designed event is a feeling like no other. It is a testament to the power of art to transcend physical forms and touch the human spirit. With each event, I am reminded that true artistry lies not just in the final product, but in the ability to evoke emotions and create unforgettable experiences.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Just before the pandemic forced the world into lockdown, I had launched my event planning service focused on children’s celebrations. With great excitement and optimism, I made an appearance at a local event largely attended by my ideal clientele. I distributed beautifully designed marketing materials, which received glowing feedback on the branding colors and the business name I had chosen. Riding that natural high and affirmation that I had made all the right choices, everything came to a screeching halt within days as we were forced into lockdown.
After investing significant time, effort, and finances into building a brand centered on children’s parties, I had to put everything on hold. When the time came to remobilize, I recognized the need to pivot and move in a different direction. Although it was a difficult decision, I changed my focus, ultimately landing exactly where I was meant to be and doing the work I was truly meant to do.
Life often presents us with moments and opportunities for growth and learning. Pivoting is part of the journey, and the ability to embrace change rather than resist it is crucial for overcoming challenges. Perseverance is essential – learning to pick yourself up and keep moving forward is key. This experience taught me that while our paths may twist and turn unexpectedly, staying open and adaptable can lead us to our true calling in ways we could never have imagined.
