We were lucky to catch up with Marie Solimena recently and have shared our conversation below.
Marie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you have an agent or someone (or a team) that helps you secure opportunities and compensation for your creative work? How did you meet you, why did you decide to work with them, why do you think they decided to work with you?
I signed with my agent Peter K Agency back in May. I got in touch with this agency thanks to an actor that was on set with me during the filming of my very first feature.
On a side note, it’s actually very funny how I got the part. I was in Burbank at a CVS pharmacy grabbing the last things I need prior to my trip to Italy (I’m Italian so I go back there every summer). An elderly man with a cowboy hat stopped me and asked if my any chance I was an actress. I usually don’t talk to strangers but he didn’t seem creepy at all so I decided to give it a shot. He started saying how I would be perfect for this role for a movie they were going to start filming in October in AZ. I didn’t fully believe him, or I actually started thinking it was a scam – every guy you meet in LA is gonna tell he’s a producer and that you’re perfect for a role – they’re just hitting on you, but this one old man seemed believable. He gave me his business card and told me to email him if I was interested in auditioning for the role.
I went back home a little weird out: is this Hollywood fairytale really happening to me? I did my background check on him and turns out he worked with great directors ( even Quentin!!!!), I couldn’t say no to the audition. I got the part, flew back to Italy and came back here in September ready for pre production. This guy’s name is Jack Lucarelli and I will be forever grateful for his support and love and for believing in me. Thanks to him, not only did I shoot my very first movie, I got to meet amazing and talented actors, and to sign with my trusted agent Peter Kallinteris.
The movie, Silent Thunder, it’s having its world premiere at the New Port Beach Film Festival on October 13th
Marie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was born and raised in Italy Moved out to LA in 2017
Studied at the New York Film Academy (BFA in screen acting)
I did theatre as a kid
I have two features coming out this year
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Making everybody’s voice heard and portraying the stories of the unheard
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
There’s not luck without perseverance (yeas I was like to meet that guy at CVS) but I would have been there if I hadn’t decide to move across the globe to follow my dreams when I was only 18 yo
