We were lucky to catch up with Marie Mandeville recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Marie , thanks for joining us today. The first dollar your firm earns is always special. We’d love to hear about how you got your first client that wasn’t a friend or family.
I went on Facebook and said I would organize ANY space for $50. The closet took me 19 hours and I made $50!
In that moment I knew what I wanted to do for my career! I called my mom crying and so excited! The money wasn’t important! It was the sense of accomplishment that I received when done! I also learned what you charge they will pay!
Marie , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Organization had always been an interest of mine. One day I made a post on Facebook stating that I would organize any space for $50. I ended up organizing a closet that took 19 hours to complete. In that moment I learned 2 things. What you charge they will pay and in that moment I knew what I wanted to do with my career. I was so excited and who knew that $50 check would change my life forever! At the time I was a single mom and I knew I could not quit my corporate job to pursue my passion full-time. At the time my daughter was 2 years old. I worked my way up the corporate ladder pursing every opportunity available. I figured while I was doing a job that I did not enjoy I might as well make the most money that I could. During covid my business took off. I was getting off at 4pm and on most days picking up my mom and heading to a clients house. She was my 1st assistant and I am so grateful she dedicated her spare time to helping me grow my business. For months I worked 80 hour work weeks, finally on 10-19-2021 I quit my corporate job and pursued my passion full-time.
I give clients back their homes and there is truly no greater joy. I help my clients live their best lives through organization. An organized home is a happy home and if you are ready to take on new habits I can help you! I believe in my methods and they believe in you.
I am most proud of my passion to follow my dreams. I do believe that with a lot of dedication a hope and a dream your passion can fund your life. It’s nice to know that my daughter was along side watching her mom grow her business desire the struggles of being a single mom!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My customer service has set me apart. My thought is to be gentle and responsive with every client as if they were my grandmother. To never assume the clients knows and to over explain everything! I love what I do and my clients feel it through my work.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Word of mouth is better than any marketing you can pay for. If you treat every client like they are your first and last they will market the service for you.
