Marie , appreciate you joining us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
Every since I was child, I’ve always loved flowers and how excited they make me feel. When I was about 6 or 7 years old, my dad took me to a florist to pick out flowers for my mom- I was so excited I asked the woman for florist supplies to wrap my own flowers! Throughout the years I’ve been arranging flowers for fun but I didn’t decide to make the plunge until this year. Up until this point in my career, I’d always gone for the safe bet and worked in corporate jobs. In my last role I worked in a pretty difficult environment that made me really question what brought me fulfillment & happiness. It was a difficult decision to make but I realized it was time to put myself first and finally go after my dream of becoming a floral designer. Making the switch from a corporate job to entrepreneurship was definitely a big transition but I’m absolutely loving the creative freedom, the community & artistic expression this is bringing me. I’ve had a lot of support from my friends & family throughout this journey, I definitely couldn’t have done it without them.

Furiosa Flowers is constantly pushing the boundaries of traditional floral arrangements to create one-of-a-kind meaningful flower moments. I love using fresh plants & flowers that are unique, sculptural & seasonal with a heavy focus on sustainability. I founded Furiosa Flowers because it was really important to me to provide the best customer service, a super easy & friendly booking process & excellent quality. I love designing flowers for my clients because they are super creative, fun people.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The hardest lesson for me to unlearn was that you’re not defined by your job or the money you make. Coming from the corporate world, I was so used to quantifying success in regards of sales, profitability or job titles. My traditional view of success got upended pretty quickly when I changed career paths. This meant I had to rethink how I viewed & defined myself as a creative individual, not just in terms of dollars. I’m so much more fulfilled emotionally and creatively in this line of work. I feel so lucky I get to design everyday!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
