Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marie Davis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Marie Davis, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Bryn, our founder, was planning her own wedding a few years ago while both she and her fiancé (now wife) were working full-time corporate jobs and living in a different state. During a work project to build a tool comparing counsel costs, Bryn had the thought that something similar was missing in the wedding industry. Our Day was born from the idea that wedding planning – especially building your vendor roster – shouldn’t add to our already super-busy life schedules. If we can help speed up the booking process, then couples can actually enjoy the planning process and focus on what matters… getting ready to celebrate the best day of their life together.

Marie Davis, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Our Day is a new wedding platform that launched in 2023, where we connect couples directly to wedding vendors that fit their needs and budget and where vendors can respond to requests for quotes directly to prospective clients to book wedding businesses. We’ve soothed the friction of the current vendor booking process for couples who are just too busy to spend multiple hours on the phone or in emails contacting vendors one by one and then, in turn, waiting for responses. And we’re actively qualifying leads for our vendor partners to help them fill their books faster and with more certainty.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The leap into this entrepreneurship world has been a giant leap of faith for both of us. Bryn launched Our Day in mid-2023 in Charlotte while still working her “9-5”. (It helps she was living in Switzerland, where the time zones lined up nicely 😅), but at a point, she knew it was time to take Our Day full-time. Bryn and I first met in October 2023 through a mutual corporate recruiter friend, and we immediately hit it off. I was on my own career pivot journey after seven years in hotel finance and seven years in hospitality tech and looking for a small team where I could contribute my strengths. We’ve made a very strong team from the onset, and each day is a new challenge and project. We have big hopes for this brand and this platform, and we’re staying agile in our operations and flexible in our vision to drive as much success and impact as quickly and efficiently as possible. We have found a good match in each other, and together, that leap of faith we’ve both taken is feeling more and more assured every day.

Any advice for managing a team?
After 25 combined years of corporate careers – much spent in leadership or executive roles – Bryn and I have a strong awareness of and sensitivity to the working environment we share with our team. While our team is small and shifted here and there over time, we have a fantastic group of strong, empowered professionals who genuinely believe in Our Day’s mission. We’ve brought people into roles where they can thrive because it’s work they actually love doing. We never want any of our team to feel like they’re unseen or unheard, so we constantly check in on them to make sure they feel confident in their goals, supported in their personal lives and schedules, and generally make sure they’re happy and excited about Our Day’s potential. Gone are the days of the cold, corporate separation of personal and professional; it’s insane to suggest that our generation will ever truly “leave work at work.” This is our life’s work, and this team is our family.
