Alright, Marie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?

I think I feel a great peace and pride knowing that the images I take of families will be enjoyed for generations. The value of a photograph grows with each passing year, so it’s an honor to be a part of every family’s heirlooms.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I am the owner and photographer behind Marie Elizabeth Photography, a full-service, luxury family photographer based out of Washington, DC. From providing client wardrobe and hair and make-up to designing heirloom albums and custom wall art, I provide a stress-free, full service experience. Enchanted with nostalgia and old-world style, you’ll find these nuances reflected in my timeless artistry.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?

Before my photography business, I was a full-time teacher for 13 years. I started my business while teaching and just had it on the side for a few years. Once I had my son, I realized that I wanted to take my business full-time, for a few reasons. I fell in love with the beauty of motherhood photography now that I had my own child, and I desired the freedom to create my own schedule so I could have more time with family.

So I committed to growing my business to make the leap to full-time. It was not easy – I had to significantly raise my prices and market, market, market. I felt discouraged a lot because it took awhile to get consistent clients at a profitable price point. However, I knew that I just had to grow my audience.

Now I run a 6-figure photography business that gives me so much freedom – freedom with time and freedom with creativity.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

I think one of the biggest aspects that has helped build my reputation in my market is my client experience. I offer a full-service, boutique experience so clients feel truly taken care of. I want them to walk away feeling loved.
