Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Maridalia Hernandez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Maridalia, appreciate you joining us today. It’s easy to look at a business or industry as an outsider and assume it’s super profitable – but we’ve seen over and over again in our conversation with folks that most industries have factors that make profitability a challenge. What’s biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
It definitely is challenging starting a new business. As a sustainable fashion expert this is what I know best. The resell market growing so rapidly and is very saturated. When starting my new business venture with my husband, which we named A & M Vintage Shop we quickly realized we need to appeal to a bigger audience. We’re currently in the process of building our inventory, clientele and community. We decided that aside from vintage and designer fashion we also want to cater to collectors alike. People love a good collectible item and now we’ve become little curators of desired items. The competition is very broad as there are so very platforms to sell our inventory. The challenge we face is marketing our inventory and finding the perfect platform. Today you can find a million online stores and you have to work extra hard to get your name out there!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am someone who brought fashion and freelance styling and eventually worked for large fashion resell companies as an authenticator. Ethical fashion is very important to me, and this is the model I bring now. I am looking to build my clientele in Miami offering authentication services while growing A & M Vintage Shop with my husband as we curate fashion and collectible pop culture items. We offer collectible cards, movies, comic books etc. We love finding the most unique sough after items that are one person’s trash but another’s treasure. Our client likes to collect or is looking for the perfect gift for a loved one. You can currently find us on eBay, and we are working on our site!
Thank you,

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I definitely feel that a great tool for a great business is good credit. As children and young adults a lot of our parents don’t teach us the importance of credit and how to build it. This is something I want to teach my future children. If you have great credit, it will do wonders for your business. It can jumpstart your business without investing out of pocket.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I am always daydreaming visuals, whether it be a garment, outfit or creative visuals. This has definitely helped when thinking outside the box! It is also what sets people apart from others and brings individuality.
