We recently connected with Marianne Hernandez and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Marianne thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
By far the most meaningful project I’ve ever worked on it a cabled pullover for my son! Being able to make something for him that would be able to be passed down is so rewarding and touching. At the time, I had only recently learned how to knit after crocheting for a few years and definitely had never attempted textured knitting before, so it was really amazing seeing it work up.
Marianne, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I haven’t made the jump to pursuing my creative hobbies full-time as I work as a civil engineer and love doing that, but I definitely take commissions and love to commission other fiber artists for their work. I decided to learn how to knit less than a year ago and after crocheting seriously for a few years, I think I finally found my real passion. I post my progress pictures and finished objects to my Instagram @sunandmoon_crochet.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is by far being involved in the community. I’ve found some true friends through sharing my hobbies and I wouldn’t trade that for the world!
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
One thing that non-creatives might have a hard time understanding is absolutely the amount of time and mental energy that goes into creating. For example, my most recent knitted garment took at least 35 hours to complete, not including the gauge swatching and blocking time. It’s a labor of love, that’s for sure.
