Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mariana Morais. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mariana , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
At just 15 years old, while most of my friends were figuring out high school, I took a leap and chose something completely different—I decided to become a professional makeup artist. It felt risky for so many reasons. I was young, inexperienced, and stepping into an industry full of seasoned professionals. But I had a deep love for makeup.
The opportunity came through my sister, Amanda, who owns a beauty business. She saw my potential before I fully believed in it myself. I started learning from her, watching her work with clients, and slowly taking on faces of my own. I practiced on anyone who would let me, spent my free time learning techniques, and built my first makeup kit with money I saved from odd jobs.
The biggest challenge was proving that age didn’t define talent or professionalism. Some people doubted me simply because I was so young—but I let that push me harder. I had to learn quickly how to talk to clients, handle pressure, and show up with confidence even when I was nervous inside. Every wedding, or client I worked on became a chance to prove to myself that I belonged in this space.
Looking back now, that risk shaped everything. Now at 19 years old, I have built a strong portfolio, a loyal client base, and my own brand—Makeup by Mari Morais. It wasn’t always easy, but it was worth. Taking that risk taught me that believing in yourself—especially when others don’t—is the first step to building something amazing.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi! I’m Mariana Morais, but most people know me as the artist behind Makeup by Mari Morais. I’m an 19 year-old professional makeup artist based in Atlanta, specializing in bridal and event glam. I’ve been in the beauty industry for 4 years now, and even though I started young—at just 15—makeup has been a lifelong passion that turned into a full-time career.
I was first introduced to the world of beauty through my sister, Amanda Morais, who owns her own beauty business. Watching her work with clients, build her brand, and live her passion lit a fire in me. She gave me my first real shot—inviting me to learn from her, practice on real clients, and eventually join her team. From there, I invested every spare moment into developing my craft: watching tutorials, studying trends, practicing on friends, and slowly building up my own kit and clientele.
Today, I offer on-site makeup and hair services for weddings, photoshoots, proms, maternity shoots, quinceañeras, and other special events. What I really provide—beyond the glam—is confidence. My goal is always to help my clients look and feel like the best, most powerful version of themselves. I’m not just applying makeup; I’m creating a moment where someone sees themselves in a new light.
What sets me apart is my ability to connect personally with each client, while still delivering flawless, high-end results. I understand how important trust is in this industry, especially for brides and special events. I bring calm energy, professionalism, and a sharp eye for detail to every booking—whether I’m glamming a bridal party of 10 or doing a one-on-one appointment.
I’m proudest of how far I’ve come so young—from a teenage girl with a brush and a dream, to now running my own brand and getting booked months in advance. I’ve worked hard to earn every bit of respect I have in this industry, and I’m still growing every day.
If you’re a potential client or follower, here’s what I want you to know: Makeup by Mari Morais is more than just a service. It’s a space where beauty, passion, and professionalism meet. Whether it’s your big day or just a day you want to feel amazing, I’m here to make sure you walk out feeling empowered, radiant, and seen.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is seeing the confidence and joy on someone’s face when they look in the mirror after I’ve done their makeup. It’s not just about the glam—it’s about how it makes them feel. Knowing that I played a part in someone feeling beautiful, empowered, and ready for a special moment in their life is something I’ll never get tired of.
As a creative, I also love the freedom to express myself through my work. Every face is a new canvas, and every client brings a new story, vibe, and vision to bring to life. It keeps me inspired and constantly pushing myself to grow.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My biggest goal is to become a celebrity makeup artist and a go-to name in luxury bridal glam. I’m building my brand with that vision in mind every single day. My mission is to not only elevate my artistry to the highest level, but to create unforgettable experiences for my clients—whether they’re walking the red carpet or down the aisle.
I want every person I work with to feel like a star, to feel seen, and to feel completely confident in their skin. I’m driven by the idea that makeup is more than just beauty—it’s energy, emotion, and empowerment. That’s what keeps me growing, learning, and reaching for that next level in my creative journey.
