We were lucky to catch up with Mariana Beauchamp recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Mariana, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I am thrilled to announce my solo musical debut: “Para protegerme” (“To Protect Myself”). This project stands as a testament to the various ways in which we can protect and love ourselves and one another, even amidst moments when it all seems to crumble around us. The song was born from a moment of realization when I felt that the connections I forged seemed to fall apart, reminding me that at the end of the day, I am the one who has to protect myself from what hurts.
I have embarked on the journey of bringing my musical vision to life with producer Rigoazulado. Additionally, the project features the mixing and master of Ricardo Wheelock and the visual work of William Russell. Together, we’ve poured our hearts and souls into “Para protegerme,” creating a song that hopefully not only resonates with personal experiences but also offers solace and empowerment to listeners navigating their own paths.
This is the first of three singles that will come out before my first EP titled “Tanto en mí”.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Mariana Beauchamp, a 25-year-old Puerto Rican singer-songwriter, performer, and educator. After graduating from the University of Puerto Rico in 2021, I earned an Artist Diploma in Vocal Performance from the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico in 2022. Since then, I’ve been teaching while working on my musical project.
In 2023, I made my debut as a singer/songwriter at ‘Las fiestas de la Calle San Sebastián’, a significant yearly cultural celebration in Puerto Rico. Later that year, I performed at the Azulado House venue founded by Rigoazulado and Karina Vélez. After playing in this venue I started my collaborative journey with producer Rigoazulado to bring my original music to fruition.
These diverse experiences fueled my determination to persist as an independent artist, a musical theater performer, and educator. Currently, as I work on my musical projects, I am completing a Masters Degree in Vocal Performance and Vocal Pedagogy.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is being able to create community and connection with other people.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Creating art today is challenging due to insufficient funding and lack of accessible artistic education. Without government investment and belief in the arts, as well as support from cultural institutions; our artistic community faces struggles in sustaining its work. However, individuals in positions of power should actively engage in dialogue with artists to discover better ways to support them. On the other hand, other artists and consumers of art should demonstrate support by engaging with artists’ content, attending their showcases, as well as by sharing their work.
