We were lucky to catch up with Mariah Wright recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mariah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
In April of 2020, during my third pregnancy, I began my journey to become a doula. This decision was deeply rooted in my own birthing experiences and the strong conviction that women deserve to be informed and supported in crafting the birthing experience they desire. My own journey through childbirth began with a deviation from original birth plan to have a waterbirth, as my first child arrived via cesarean at the age of 17. Despite my initial plans, induction was recommended by doctors due to my son not arriving on his due date. After enduring three days of labor, a cesarean became inevitable.
Five years later, pregnant with my daughter, I found myself facing another cesarean due to my previous experience. Even when I went into labor on my own on the day of the scheduled cesarean, I was convinced to proceed with the surgery by medical staff. With my third child, despite my desire for a natural birth, medical professionals once again insisted on a cesarean.
Reflecting on these experiences, I realized that none of my cesareans were medically necessary, and I felt robbed of the birth experience I wanted. I firmly believe that with the support of a doula, my choices would have been different, and I could have experienced childbirth on my own terms.
In 2022, my journey toward holistic healing took another significant turn as I delved into herbalism. Faced with medical conditions that I was told I needed surgery for, I chose to explore natural alternatives for healing. Through extensive research, I discovered the potential of herbs in addressing conditions such as fibroids and ovarian cysts. By incorporating herbal teas into my daily routine, I experienced a remarkable improvement in my symptoms within a span of two months.
Driven by this personal transformation, I expanded my exploration into women’s reproductive health, particularly focusing on holistic fertility. Witnessing the struggles of countless women grappling with fertility issues alongside similar health challenges, I wanted to further my knowledge and embarked on a course in holistic fertility. My aim was clear: to empower women with the knowledge and support they need to navigate their reproductive health journey with confidence and autonomy.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Yes! I used to work in Corporate America for a very well known telecommunications company and I had pretty flexible hours and very good pay. I would work my “job” during the day and then work my business until I was tired and have to get up and do it all over again. Now, the struggle was that I am also a mother of three amazing kids and a wife to an amazing supportive husband so I would also have to figure out how to squeeze in time with them, work my job and work my business. As you could imagine, there were things being neglected. It got to the point where I had to make the decision to either quit my job or put my business on hold until I would find some work/life balance( which is a dream). I talked it out with my husband on multiple occasions and at first we were afraid of losing the stability of my job. Although he worked too, we were still a 2 income household barely making it so me quitting was a scary thought.
We kept talking about it and praying about it until one day I was like enough is enough. I told my husband that I was tired of going to work angry everyday and not being able to put 100% into my business like it deserves. My husband agreed that he would rather see me happy than anything else and so we set a date for me to quit my job. Once the day came, I was TERRIFIED because what did I just do?? Lol but I also did not want to live with what if’s. I had it bad of always thinking the negative like what if I quit and I fail, then I would be a failure and it would all be for nothing. My husband helped me a lot with eliminating my limited beliefs. He would always counteract it with but what if you succeed and it is the best thing you could have ever done.
It took me a while to get there but once I stopped worrying about money and stability and just trusting the process, it turned out to be the best decision I ever made. No, we did not have a savings, and a few months after I quit my husband ended up being laid off but we are still making it. I was still able to move out of my home and into an actual office and my sales have been better than ever. I still have a ways to go but the happiness and freedom that I have to live life on my terms is unmatched.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson that I had to unlearn while working in Corporate America is that hard work, in fact, does not pay off. I can only speak for the company that I worked for but I always gave 110% of anything that I did because I was always taught that if you give your all you will be rewarded however, whenever there was time for a “reward” there was always an excuse but more work given. I learned to stop giving everything I had and just doing enough to keep the check rolling in and started focusing more and more on my business until I eventually quit.
