Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mariah Wallace. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mariah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The story behind my mission started off by thinking of ways to connect and shine the light on other business owners or people with interesting topics. Creating my podcast opened so many doors to be able to work with other business owners from different walks of life while also giving them an option to share their experiences and gain exposure on my platform. It’s such a meaningful mission for me because I started my podcast during a time where I experienced so much in life losing my immediate loved ones. My friend talked me into starting a podcast based off previous conversations. Of course, I had cold feet in the beginning but once I completed the first episode, I thought to myself man that felt great and amazing! And at that point I felt like I finally found one of my purposes in life.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Mariah also known as Riah, host of A Tall Woman’s Perspective Podcast in Philadelphia. I got introduced to the podcast industry by one of my close friends Kevin. Based off our general conversations and topic discussions he would always say you would be great as a podcast host. After he mentioned it a few more times I finally gave in and said ok let’s do it and A Tall Woman’s Perspective Podcast came onto the podcast scene!
I collaborate with career driven, business owners or individuals with clear perspectives on whatever topic is at hand. Also, you’re not required to be a tall person or have a business to be a potential guest.
I like to look at my podcast as a form of art, giving people the opportunity to express themselves while promoting a product, brand or simply letting their voice be heard.
I think my podcast stands out from others because each episode is packed with so much knowledgeable information. I thoroughly do my research on each guest and ask the right questions for the audience to gage and get a clear understanding of the services offered.
I’m most proud of the positive direction my podcast is going, it truly blossomed into something so beautiful during a time in my life that I didn’t know I needed it the most.
The main things I want my viewers to know is my platform is a safe space to provide great resources and networking opportunities. My advice to anyone looking to get started in the podcast world or if you had a goal you would like to obtain is simple research your niche and come up with a solid game plan to get started. The last thing you want to do is look back on so much time that has passed and say I wish I should’ve, could’ve or would’ve. Each audio podcast episode is available on all streaming platforms, video episodes are also available on YouTube at A Tall Woman’s Perspective Podcast. Instagram: @ATallWomansPersp . Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I’ve experienced a few minor setbacks early on in my podcast journey, but this time stood out the most. I had a scheduled guest experience technical difficulties joining the live episode with no audio. Luckily, I do a test run 15 minutes prior to the actual scheduled time in case there are any issues. I used my critical thinking skills and thought of an alternative app to use to record the episode, and everything went as planned for the audio, but the video was delayed by a few days. I informed my audience of the delays and took a note to self that there will be bumps along the way but as long as I remain optimistic and continue to adapt to any problems it will eventually work itself out and be a learning lesson in my journey.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Sure, building a solid social media presence is crucial when you’re starting out in the podcast world. The first question I asked myself was which social media platform do I utilize the most? The answer was Instagram, so I created a page and asked friends, family, and associates to share my podcast post, reels, and stories. At the time one thing I found helpful was to attach hashtags to each post, that helped my page gain exposure targeting different urban cities. Utilizing hashtags also helped me meet and collaborate with some of my podcast guest. Social media can be a great tool when used the proper way. Although hashtags may not work for everyone, I would recommend testing different methods such as hashtags, seo keywords etc. Once I built a solid core with Instagram, I did the same with other social media platforms and followed the same steps. It’s pretty much trial and error until you create a formula that works for you and most importantly make sure that you stay consistent with your plan.
