We were lucky to catch up with Mariah Lawrence recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mariah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
I recently rebranded the company to Bespoke to better fit my core values with this business. I have always been more interested in the unique weddings and catering towards each and every couple’s inspiration. Knowing that something being “bespoke” means that it is tailored to them, I found the name to be very fitting.
Mariah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started Bespoke as I was a Junior in college at the University of Missouri – Columbia while I was working on my degree in Film and Media Production. From a young age, I’ve always loved cameras and documenting every fun thing about life.
I was approached by a friend of mine to come and second shoot some weddings with her doing videography and I feel in love with the industry. Being able to capture one of the happiest days of people’s lives and share that with them was and is so powerful. It fills me with so much joy to have been able to make this what I do.
Being able to take my knowledge from film school and put it into customized wedding films as well as photo galleries has been such an amazing experience. From the initial call with a client to uncover what their vision is to being able to hear their reaction when they see the final product, it’s such a fun, full-circle moment to bring their vision to life.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal throughout my creative journey is to truly be able to make people’s visions come to life. That’s always been such a fun thing for me and I love being able to do that for others.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
When starting the business, things may have been a little easier for me. With doing photography and videography while being in film school, I had access to my mom’s old camera and I used it to make my first wedding films alongside a camera that my dad helped me in buying as well.
