SubscribeWe’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mariah Grumet. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mariah below.
Alright, Mariah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
My mission is to bring an intentional sparkle back to the lost art of etiquette, and my hope is that legacy continues to live on after I’m gone. I hope that my work creates a domino effect legacy- I hope my work makes people feel confident enough to truly shine their light and by doing so they inspire others to shine their light too. With that, we make the world a brighter place. I think, (or I hope at least!) people will say they felt empowered, comfortable, inspired, and most importantly valued in my presence. That is what is most meaningful to me in this world.
I hope to leave the legacy of spreading the word on what modern etiquette truly is and why it is more relevant today than ever! Etiquette is all about simply making the intentional decision to be more mindful of the people around us. To truly to be kind and respectful to ourselves and others.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Mariah Grumet. I’m a NYC based etiquette trainer, Founder of Old Soul Etiquette, and author of modern wedding etiquette book “What Do I Do?”
Etiquette is something that has interested me since I was a teen. I can credit that to my old soul for sure. To many people’s surprise, I did not have any formal etiquette training until I was an adult. While I was not raised in a super formal home, we were raised with having kindness and respect at the root of every single thing we did, and that is what etiquette is truly about. When I first moved to NYC to work in the fashion industry, I took an etiquette course as a fun weekend activity. It was there that I saw the true power of modern etiquette and what it meant to redefine people’s misconceptions of it. I quickly realized that I was missing my calling, and can only describe it as a gut feeling I am incredibly grateful for.
Eventually, I took a huge leap of faith and left my job in the fashion industry to pursue my passion, and it was the best decision I could have ever made. Teaching etiquette allows me to merge the things I am most passionate about: kindness and care for others, intentional living, and helping people discover the confidence they need to reach their full potential. My mission with OSE is and always will be to bring an intentional sparkle back to a lost art. I have had the privilege to learn from the most prestigious etiquette and protocol schools around the world. My method of teaching puts a modern and approachable twist on timeless lessons of etiquette, manners, and respect, to help my clients create stronger connections, distinguish themselves, and reach their full potential in their personal and professional lives. I am honored to work with individuals of all ages and backgrounds located across the globe. I am located in New York City, offering services in person as well as virtually. OSE’s services include private consulting, group sessions, webinars, speaking engagements, and special events on the following topics: youth, social, dining and business etiquette, personal branding, wedding preparation, style consulting, and more. I have had the honor to share my work on The Today Show, NBC News, Fox News, as well as in Forbes, Southern Living, Brides, Martha Stewart, The New York Post, Travel and Leisure, and more.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media through experimenting with video content across multiple platforms until I really found my personal style and voice. I put a lot of effort into creating content related to my niche that educates and inspires my audience. It has been a learning process to truly understand both what I enjoy creating and what my community responds well to.
My advice for those looking to build their social media presence would be to really just go for it, and focus on video content as that is where less established creators are seeing growth, and certainly what helped my platform grow. It won’t be perfect, you will learn as you go, and you will likely be uncomfortable in the process, but you have to be in it to win it, as they say. Don’t think about it too much. Brainstorm all of your ideas, start creating when you have the time, and try to post consistently. Trust me, I look back at my old videos and giggle, but it is fun to see how far you come when you just jump in and start.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Social media has been an incredible tool to help me grow my clientele. It allows me to connect with people around the globe, leading to incredible travel and brand opportunities. The other strategy that I have found most effective is old fashioned networking. Getting out there and meeting as many people as possible, creating connections, and sharing the passion I have for my business. One of my mentors says, “You have to see to be seen,” meaning you have to get out there and connect with people. I am a one-woman show, so I am my best form promotion.
